Notes for February 21, 2008

Yes, they will be unveiling GoldenEye tomorrow.

And yes, I'm trying to find out what Project RedLime is. I don't think it's Wing Commander...

That is all.

Hi Skater!
I hope you're having a good time at GDC.
I have a question: is Nintendo planning any big announcement for this event? Maybe a Starfox, or something else...

Thanks in advance!

PS=Sorry for my bad english

Anonymous said...

Hey!

i'm back again. The goldeneye thing tommorow, but where is Banjo 3? Will we see info about banjo 3 soon?

big thx and have fun!

Anonymous said...

hope goldeneye is for VC.....

skaterboy said...

Anon One:
Nope, doesn't look like it.
Your English is very nice, by the way!
I'm always surprised when I see any of my commenters apologize for "bad English," because you all write it so well, that I can't tell that you aren't native English speakers. Very impressive! :)

thesameold:
They will almost certainly unveil Banjo 3 before E3, but I don't think it's going to be this week or anything.

Anon Two:
Nope, it's for XBLA. GoldenEye will not appear on Wii VC, unfortunately.

Anonymous said...

How can that be even possible, nintendo owns the dame game content....

Hi skaterboy,

few simple questions:

- Will Sony show anything big before GDC ends? Like Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Motorstorm 2, FFXIII, inFamous ??

Thanks in advance.

Anonymous said...

Why Sony has not shown any games? Will they show anything and what?

Anonymous said...

Thanks for your compliments (I'm anonymous one :P)!
I have other two questions, I hope you'll be able to reply me: is Capcom going to make a sequel for Zack & Wiki? I really like the game and a sequel could be awesome. And what about that Zelda title by Retro Studios? Is Retro Studios really working on this franchise (which is my favourite?)?

Thank you for your helpfulness!

Hey Skater Boy!

1. Will there ever be a Diddy Kong Racing game for the Wii? As in a brand new entry? What about the original for the VC? Is it possible for Rare to perhaps raise the game's framerate to 60 for it's VC release?

2. Does Mario Stadium Baseball have Online Multiplayer? When is it coming out?

3. What's up with Krunch the Kremling from Diddy Kong Racing? Why hasn't he been in a Mario sport game, even though he's owned by Nintendo and is very fitting to be in the games? Any chance of him being in Mario Stadium Baseball or Mario Kart Wii?

4. What's next for the rest of the Diddy Kong Racing characters that Rare owns?

5. Who's the publisher of Viva Pinata DS?

6. Is Blue Dragon Plus heading to North America and who is going to be the publisher then if it does?

7. You didn't answer my questions about EA's Catch of the Day on the Wii from two posts ago! :(

Thanks again!

Project offset just got bought by intel what does it mean for the company and the game? Will it come to more/less plateforms?

Anonymous said...

Nintendo will not get Goldeneye on the Wii unless if Microsoft gets it for the XBox Live Arcade.

Anonymous said...

So what else can we expect for the rest of GDC Skater boy?

So Left 4 Dead was pretty much confirmed for PS3 and now Valve says no?

Anonymous said...

hey man, you said that resistance 2 WOULD be shown at GDC - looking quite unlikely methinks!?

Anonymous said...

Your buddy Surfer Girl, if memory serves, once alluded to Square possibly making Super Mario RPG 2/Remake...possibly for the DS.

Have you heard anything about this? Is it true?!

Thanks!

Hey, I have a few questions.

1) Will Eternal Sonata see a NA PS3 release.
2) Will Tales of Vesperia see a PS3 release.
3) What is "Angel Rings" exactly?
4) Will the new Twisted Metal be a full game, or a multi-player only like Warhawk?

Thanks!

Anonymous said...

I take it you were wrong about the GE announcement?

Anonymous said...

When will White Knight Story be showed again?

And Eight Days? How are they coming along?

Anonymous said...

Do you have any idea why GDC08 was such a letdown from Sony?
No games, nothing important about HOME, nothing about in XMB.
E3 is to far, like around 5 months from now.
Any comments?

Anonymous said...

Hey Skater, just a few questions.

1) Will Cryptic bring Champions Online to the PLAYSTATION 3?

2) When will Sony give us our in-game XMB.

3) That PLAYSTATION 3 accomplishments thing is true right? Will developers start implementing them into their upcoming releases?

Thanks!

Anon One:
The legal situation regarding GoldenEye is complex, but there are forces (money) compelling all involved parties to get the remake to happen. Nintendo does not own the full rights to the game.

Anon Two:
Your question has answered itself, I suppose.

Anon Three:
See above.

Anon Four:
Zack & Wiki has sold much better than expected, and the reviews were great. Capcom is seriously considering a sequel, and I'd say that it looks very likely that they'll do it. And yep, Retro is doing a Zelda game. It sounds cool.

hero of legend:
1) DK Bongo Blast has sold very poorly, but Diddy Kong Racing DS has sold over a million copies, so if they ever do another Kong racer, it will almost certainly be more like DKR. The original will come to VC, once they figure out something to do about the Rare-owned characters in the game (they'll need to either make a deal with Rare/MS, or completely replace the characters). I doubt they'll do anything with the framerate.
2) Yes, it has online. It's still on track for this Summer.
3) Quite simply, he's just not a terribly popular character. I doubt he'll appear in any Mario games, or any other games, period.
4) Same as above. Not popular enough to count on seeing again.
5) I think I heard that THQ is interested.
6) Unknown, sorry.
7) Sorry, I'll answer those questions very soon!

gorillamuseum:
It means that they now have a lot more financial backing, which I think will be a good thing for them. It's almost certain that the game will not appear on PS3.

zoe:
Nothing much, as you've seen. Sorry for the late replys!

SickNick85:
Dunno about Home. Star Ocean 4 could still happen late this year, but it's starting to look like it might end up being Q1 2009. It'll be on PS3 and 360, though not at the same time.

alex:
Left 4 Dead was never confirmed for PS3.

Anon Five:
I'm as surprised as you are. Things must have changed since I originally heard the story from my source (which was, indeed, quite a while ago).

fapping fish:
I doubt it very much, at least as far as a direct SMRPG sequel is concerned. I'd count on more Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi games, instead.

santa claus:
1) Looks like it, yes.
2) Yes, but after the 360 version.
3) Looks like vaporware, to me.
4) Singleplayer and multiplayer.

jimbo:
No, I wasn't.

Anon Six:
1) There should be some more previews of it in the Japanese gaming media prior to E3 (where it will also be making an appearance).
2) Dunno when they'll be showing it, but they're struggling to make it even remotely resemble that scripted and pre-rendered trailer from E3 2006.

Anon Seven:
Dunno, I'm quite surprised by their GDC showing. It's not what I was told would be happening. Either things weren't ready to show, or they're waiting for a more media-focused event (remember, GDC is supposed to be more of a legitimate technology and technique conference for actual developers, than a publicity/hype show, like E3 is).

agent 47:
1) Not planned, at the moment. That game is a long ways off, though, so they might change their minds by the time it's released.
2) April to June is what I've been told.
3) Yes, that should appear in games by this Summer.

Anonymous said...

"And yep, Retro is doing a Zelda game. It sounds cool."

Ultimate disappointment for me. Why oh why can't Nintendo let them make something new? Why must we have yet another medieval world of Link and Ganon and the triforce?

And I don't buy this talk of it being different from and non traditional, either. I'll lay down a 4-pack of 90 Minute IPA that says we'll have dungeons, and triforces, and boomerangs Link saying nothing but one noise over and over again.

Anonymous said...

I have to know: Is Capcom seriously considering doing a MegaMan Legends 3?

I've heard rumors that they might actually do it.

Anonymous said...

Hey skaterboy,

What's the situation for the Metal Gear (Solid?) game for Wii?

Thanks in advance.

Anonymous said...

Sup,

Have questions.

A) Is Disaster: Day of Crisis going to be really shown off any time soon?

B) Any idea on what games will use the pay-for-online service on Wii? I'm assuming MMOs like Phantasy Star Universe, which don't use HDDs.

C) How about VC/Wiiware games running off SD cards/USB drives?

D) I don't suppose we'll get a new Colony Wars game? Or for that matter, any chance of some of the PS1-era SCE franchises that were laid fallow during the PS2's life cycle (Rollcage, G-Police, etc) returning?

Hero of Legend said...

Wow, thanks for the answers!

1. Any idea if Paon or Nintendo themselves did the redesigns of the Kongs?

2. Is Nintendo still allowing Paon to develop DK games even though BB sold and was received poorly?

3. Other than Paon, Rare on the DS, and possibly Nintendo Tokyo, which developer would most likely develop a new DK game?

4. There are rumors of a Jungle Beat 2 being considered or may even be in development right now, would this game be more like the first, or would Nintendo put lots of DKC elements like Diddy and Kremlings into the game?

5. You said that Mario Tennis Wii is possibly coming right? Camelot would be developing this right?

Thanks!

Anonymous said...

Just one question. After Nintendo's announcement about the compression method for WiiWare games as a 'solution'to stoage space issue, this compression method is only allowed in WiiWare titles or this includes VC games as well?
Does this means that the VC Shop Channel will see an update and soon we 'll be able to redownload our VC games with this new technique and actually being very smaller in size? And if yes, when this new method will be released?
Thank you very much!

So...how was GDC? :P

1. Is te delay for FFCC: TCB caused by the White Engine (now called Crystal Tools)? Is FFCC: TCB going to use it?

2. What other SE Wii games will use the Crystal Tools?

What are the chances of a new Xenosaga game? I figure it would have to be on the Wii if there ever is one.

Hiya Skaterboy!

A few questions if you dont mind:
1) Will Warhawk ever get a sequel? Or will the game remain in its current form, and just receive DLC?

2) Are there any new God of War titles in development, albeit Gow3, and the PSP version that is currently going to be released? Also, is the PSP version getting a PS2 port?

3) Do Sony have any announced exclusives coming for PS3 and PSP? If so, how many for both platforms respectively, and can you give any information on them?

4) Do Sony see Afrika as a big seller? It seems like the sort of game that will gets a bunch of DLC; will it?

5) Will Sony release Buzz! and Singstar PS3 in Japan? Will foreign songs ever be available for DLC?

6) There was some talk of PSN perhaps getting PS2 games for download... any truth to this?

7) Any new PixelJunk games coming for PSN?

8) Team ICO's PSN title: will it be similar in design to ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, or will they instead venture into different territory? Any information about it?

9) When will we get more information about Suckerpunch's Infamous? The title seems rather intriguing but there is nothing beyond the first trailer that was shown. As well, any impressions on how it is shaping up? And why does the protagonist remind me of Phil Harrison?

10) The Eyetoy was a major peripheral for Sony for the PS2. SO far in the PS3's cycle, it's use has been minimal. Are Sony going to start ramping up the eyetoy avenue any time soon?

11) At this link:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/technology/2008/02/playstation_bounces_back.html
the writer claims to have seen a title that is very secretive and quite mind-blowing. Any idea what it is? The author says that he is tied to some agreement, so maybe you can dish a few clues perhaps.

Thx again!

Is there any chance MS will acquire Take-Two?

skaterboy said...

Sadyv:
Have faith. Oh, and Retro will be developing an original title soon.

Anon One:
Doesn't look like it.

Anon Two:
Should be happening, but it's still in the preliminary planning stages.

pointman_4000:
A) Looks like they might wait until E3.
B) Unknown. Monster Hunter 3 should still be free, according to what I've heard.
C) Not right now.
D) Nope, nothing is going on with any of those franchises.

Hero of legend:
1) Beats me. I'd assume that an artist at Paon did the designs you see in the Paon-developed DK games, while his appearance in Brawl was designed by an artist at Game Arts or HAL, an so on.
2) More DK games from Paon is possible, but the company is currently busy with Eternal Chronicle for DS, and some other things.
3) Could be anybody, really.
4) Sorry, I haven't heard anything about another Jungle Beat.
5) Mario Tennis Wii is guaranteed. Camelot will probably be tapped for the development.

Anon Three:
Very possible. It'd really only be particularly useful for larger N64 games and the like, I imagine.

rpg:
So-so.
1) It doesn't use Crystal Tools, to my knowledge. The Wii implementation of that engine was only recently developed, whereas Crystal Bearers has been in development for over 3 years.
2) The Mana game, for one. And Kingdom Hearts, if that does pan out.

brimstoner:
Not very likely.

1000:
1) E3, probably. Alan Wake is great.
2) Can't say for sure what that guy saw, but I'd wager it was Heavy Rain. Personally, I'm not totally sold on that game, but it's definitely the kind of game that will blow away the mainstream journalists. The game fits the "story-telling and immersion" part of the bill, but what confuses me is that he says that "Phil Harrison...was unsure at first whether even to admit the title existed." Heavy Rain's exisistance isn't exactly a secret, so while it does sound like that's the game he saw, that part of his story is a bit confusing.

CruizD:
1) A sequel is possible, but not in the works right now. There will be lots more DLC for the current game.
2) Just GOW3 at the moment. Yes, Chains of Olympus is coming to PS2.
3) Yes, several for each.
4) I think that Sony is hoping that Afrika's integration with Home will help give it legs. I don't think anyone is counting on a multi-million seller with that particular title, though. DLC is certain.
5) Those titles will likely be available in Japan. Foreign-language songs as DLC, though? Highly doubtful.
6) No, not going to happen. Especially now that there are models of PS3 which don't feature backwards compatibility with PS2 games.
7) Aside from the two that were just announced? Those are the only new ones I know of.
8) You'll be able to instantly recognize it as being their work.
9) Might not be until E3. It looked pretty cool when I saw it, but I'm still most interested in Prototype, personally. Dunno about that last part, heh.
10) There will be some Eyetoy-specific titles, as well as more titles that use the camera for various functions. I don't think it will ever become a truly must-have accessory, though.
11) Please see my response to 1000's question, above. :)

anonymouse:
No idea where he's going. I can't predict Hirai's future performance abilities.

Anon Four:
They're being coy. GoldenEye is going to happen, one way or another.

Anon Five:
Looks as though it may have been bumped up, but I'm not sure, sorry.

sicknick85:
1) Possible.
2) Killing Day was cancelled about a year and a half ago.
3) Nope, nothing much to report on that.

kookoo:
No, not going to happen.

Cruiz said...

Hi Skaterboy

1) Eight Days... there's been some leaked news about it the other day... does it really look better then Killzone 2?

2) Any news on whether GT5 will really get damage or not? I understand the circumstances around it not having any , but just thought u might know something.

Thanks for those answers again!

1. I assume Mario Golf Wii will come along after Mario Tennis Wii?

Notice an interesting pattern?

GC:

Mario Golf
Mario Tennis
Mario Baseball
Mario Strikers

Wii:

Mario Strikers
Mario Baseball
Mario Tennis?
Mario Golf?

It's reversed!

2. Is Camelot able to develop for non-Nintendo platforms still? Why was I Love Golf canned? I don't want them developing for non-Nintendo consoles of course, I'm just asking. :P

3. Now that RE0 is heading to the Wii as confirmed by Famitsu, will the Wii see other Wiimakes from Capcom? Such as Dino Crisis and DMC? Sven said that's not a very marketable idea, but then, neither is a Wiimake of RE0...

That's it at the moment. Thanks!

Maybe on Wii?
Or a Wiimake?

And speaking of, given today's news of Capcom porting another game to the Wii, what does does Capcom have coming down the pike for Wii?
Both original or ports?

...God Hand Wii?

I have another question.

4. Is there any chance of there being an Opoona II? I know the original didn't do well at all in Japan, but ArtPiazza/Koei are to blame as Mario Galaxy came two weeks later, and so did Wiii Fit around that time!

But is there any possibility of Opoona getting a sequel on the Wii? Would Opoona stay as a potential Wii exclusive franchise?

Hero of Legend said...

One last thing.

5. IGN and other sites have Mario Baseball Wii listed as "Mario Superstar Baseball Wii", is that the final name of either the JAP or the NA version of the game? or is the final name yet to be final?

Personally "Mario Stadium Baseball" gets the job done and it's more original.

Hey, just some questions:

1) The recently announced Biohazard 0 - is it the 'non Umbrella Chronicles" RE game you were talking about for Wii?

2) Does Biohazard 0 have the RE4 camera style or is it just a waggle port?

3) Soo, Retro is working on a Zelda title, and Nintendo is as well?

4) if yes to #3, Is Nintendo's a spinoff a la Crossbow Training or a main game?

5) Will GTA4 live up to the hype?

6) HAZE... what is up with all these delays?

7) There is talk that that the PSN store is getting some sort of revamp. Is is just a small cosmetic change? or will it be fully upgraded to the likes of the singstar store?

8) When will the UK / US PSN stores start getting more content similar to the likes of the Japan PSN store?

Hey Skater Boy, what's happening? You've haven't been on in days! Are you okay?

May as well ask a few more questions, if you're sick, hope you get better soon! :)

6. Is Suikoden VI built from the ground up on the Wii, or is it still/was ever ported from the PS2 version?

7. Surfer Girl thinks that the Sonic Wii game is horrible, yet you think it's good or at least alright. What do you like about it, and do you know why she doesn't like it? She isn't answering questions that quickly, so I'd thought I ask for your opinion and maybe you may know hers. :P

Is it at least better than Secret Rings? I never played it, but it was decently received, so hopefully the next one will be as or better received.

8 Is Diddy Kong in Mario Kart Wii and Mario Stadium Baseball? Just asking just in case you knew. :P

9. When can we expect more Mario Stadium Baseball info? We haven't heard a peep since it's announcement at October! Also, have you played it? Is it as good as anyone expects from a Mario Sport game?

10. How's Crash Bandicoot Snatchers (my shortened nickname) on the Wii? Is the game overall good? Is it as good or even better than Titans on the Wii?

11. Rainbow Studios had job listings of an Action game for PS360, but then all of the sudden all of the listings have disappeared (there were quite a few of them) without a trace! Has the game been canned? In fact, was it the other PS360 game that THQ canned along with Concrete Games' PS360 game? If so, is being moved to the Wii?

That's it, thanks again!

CruizD:
1) Well, how so? Visually. I dunno, it's really different, stylistically.
2) They're striving for it.

Hero of legend:
1) Heh, indeed, that is an amusing and interesting pattern.
2) Camelot is free to develop for any system they please, but having recently completed Capcom's We Love Golf for Wii, they reportedly feel very "at home" working with the system. The reasons for I Love Golf's cancellation are unknown to me.
3) Haven't heard anything about Dino Crisis or DMC, but anything's possible.

Anon One:
Maximo is sadly dead, and Capcom has shut down Capcom Digital Studios, the American division which was responsible for the series. A third game was in the planning stages, right before they were shut down. Pity, because I myself enjoyed the games, as well.

Anon Two:
Resistance 2 is sooner rather than later. I know for a fact that they had a trailer ready for GDC, but I don't know why they chose not to show it. I don't know about the CoD4 DLC, sorry.

Anon Three:
I'm trying to find out more details about that myself, before I post abou tit.

Veejo Mu Chijo:
Capcom has more of both, but mostly original, of course. God Hand is extremely unlikely, but that would rock. I adored that game.

anonymouse:
Well, I've heard some optimistic talk, if that's what you mean.

Anon Four:
RE0 will come to both the US and Europe.

kookoo:
Probably at E3. Yes, to my knowledge. Heh, ask Surfer Girl.

lol:
Yes, of course.

Hero of legend:
4) Possible, but I haven't heard anything. Sorry.
5) Expect it to be called "Mario Stadium Baseball."

The End of Yaru:
1) It's one of them, yes. There are still others in the works.
2) No, it's not like RE4. They aren't putting that much effort into it.
3) Yup, pretty much.
4) Main game.

1000:
There is going to be a defection that is going to stun a lot of people, delight many, and anger quite a few. It's a possibility that everyone has at least considered, but when it comes true, probably in early 2009, it will still surprise many.

sicknick85:
No, ZoE3 is not in active production yet. It's definitely on the drawing board, though.

CruizD:
3) Yes, that will be used in a number of ways. Expect to see some more PSEye-specific games/software toys.
4) Probably not. The 360 DLC is permanently exclusive.
5) Heh, that's really up for you to decide. ;)
6) Polish and quality control, making sure that the game can compete. Haze is much more similar to other FPSes on the market than Free Radical's more unique TimeSplitters games, and they just needed extra time to make sure that it can stand out from the crowd.
7) The new Wi-fi PSP Store is the current focus of their efforts, but improvements to the PSN Store are planned. From what I've heard, it doesn't sound like a top-to-bottom renovation, though.
8) Unknown, sorry.
9) Doesn't look like it'll happen, but like I always say, there's always a chance.
10) Yes, Sony has plans for more extensive and elaborate Home integration with many of their future first-and-second-party titles. I sadly have not played the Uncharted side-scroller yet.

Anon Five:
Not planned at the moment.

sicknick85:
It's still a 360 exclusive.

Alex:
Yes, Crysis is coming to both PS3 and 360. "An almost 50% new game," though? I haven't heard it defined quite like that.

Hero of legend:
Sorry for the away time, but I'm fine now, and I'm back. Thank you for your concern, and all of you for your continued readership. I appreciate it! :)
6) Ground up, I believe.
7) Well, she seems to have pretty high standards, and seems to prefer more "unique" games, like Patapon and the like. Not to put words in her mouth, but she seems to have a certain distaste for quite a few things about the big commercial games industry.
I think the new Wii game looks alright, but I haven't had much time with it. I prefered Secret Rings to Sonic 2006, because it at least worked most of the time, whereas Sonic 2006 was a buggy mess, in my opinion.
8) Good question, but I don't know anything about that. I'll see if I can find anything out.
9) It will be shown at E3. I have not played it, unfortunately. I think it has a ton of potential, obviously.
10) It's pretty comparable to Titans. Fans of the previous game will be happy, and I'd say that it definitely does make some marginal improvements.
11) Hmm, I don't know anything about that, sorry. I'll see if I can find anything out.

Unsure. I'll try to get an answer on that, if possible.
