Stories for March 10, 2008

Sorry for the extended away time. I promise it won't happen again. Anyways, onward...

- The Konami/Mercury Steam game is quite surprising, and fairly exciting.. It is pretty different from what Mercury Steam has worked on so far.
- Speaking of exciting and mysterious games, Project RedLime will be unveiled very soon. It's awesome.
- A non-PSP version of Patapon is planned.
- Soulstorm does indeed conclude the Dawn of War series. Fret not, for THQ will unveil an all-new Warhammer game later this year.
- EA will bring a few of their major "usual suspect" perennial franchises to the iPhone, such as Need for Speed and some sports games. They have a few original projects in the works as well, aside from Spore, as well as some The Sims spin-offs, and some typical mobile phone titles. Other publishers with iPhone plans include THQ, Activision/Activision Blizzard, Atari, Gameloft, PopCap, Namco Bandai, Disney, and 2K Games. Super Monkey Ball is not Sega's only iPhone title. A well-known competitive FPS title will arrive with online options. Several publishers are preparing "brain training" titles, as well.

Wait, what system is the Konami/mercury systems game going to be on? Also, any word on a port of Killer 7 for the wii? Capcom's made insane amounts of money off of the RE ports, and I expect some more ports are in the pipeline.

Thanks, also, for finally updating again.

Nice to have you back. :)

Can you give us any clue as to who/what is defecting from Sony? Is it a game or a studio?

Anonymous said...

Welcome back!

1)Do you have any news about a HDD announcement for Wii?Surfer girl said that Nintendo is thinking about it.Do you know something more specific?
2)Any news about Nintendo's fall line-up for Wii?After Smash and Mario Kart what's next?
3)After your comments about Capcom's Resident evil projects for Wii,please tell me that the company at least considers a RE 5 port!
4)Any news about the Metal Gear game for Wii?Is it possible to see remakes of the original MSX games?
5)I knowe that this is probably old but things change over time.Have you learned anything about a possible Shenmue compilation for Wii?
6)Finally,can we expect a megaton announcement from Nintendo?Maybe a new 3d party acquisation or the exclusiveness of a major franchise?

Thanks!

Thanks for your GDC coverage and nice to see you back.

Any Sony published games news?

Any comment on the top secret game showing that even Phil Harrison (before he left Sony) tried to deny that made BBC reporters speechless?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/technology/2008/02/playstation_bounces_back.html

Anonymous said...

1) I'm guessing it's Patapon for PS3?

2) The latest issue of OPM April said that the PS3 may see their own DLC as well, according to Rockstar: http://onaxis.blogspot.com/2008/03/us-april-2008-ptom-grand-theft-auto-iv.html

Is this true?

3) Sure, MGS4, Motorstorm 2, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Haze, LittleBigPlanet, Gran Turismo 5, inFAMOUS, and such are great, but what other unannounced exclusives does Sony have that you can slip towards us?

Thanks.

Anonymous said...

Talking about haze you said: "Polish and quality control, making sure that the game can compete. Haze is much more similar to other FPSes on the market than Free Radical's more unique TimeSplitters games, and they just needed extra time to make sure that it can stand out from the crowd."

In your opinion did the extra dev time make it stand out and not look like every other fps?

Before they delayed it had some cool ideas but it didn't look to stand out that much. Did they polish it enough.

Thanks a bunch for the answers!

Are you able to say why you were away for so long? Sickness? Something confidential?

I've some some more questions.

1. DoReMi Fantasy was just released on the VC, but the game's completely in Japanese! Why is that?

And if this game is successful, will Hudson made a new Milon game that's just like this one?

I know they made a new(?) Milon game for the DS back in 2006, but that seemed more like a remake of the first game, and Milon looks ridiculous in that game!

2. Is AlphaDream developing for the Wii? Are they second party to Nintendo?

3. Will we ever see Pokemon Stadium 3?

4. What's Genius Sonority working on now? A new Pokemon game for the Wii?

5. Now, there was a big no-no by Genius Sonority. Remember in the original debut PBR trailer, the cries were Stadium-like, and the graphics were better, and the FR/LG Trainers were shown, etc. WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT?!

Why would GS or Nintendo themselves pull something like that? They're not Sony (Killzone 2)!

6 Semi continuation of above, will a new Pokemon game for the Wii use realistic cries like in Stadium, or are we stuck with those VERY outdated 8-bit cries?

Thanks again!

Anonymous said...

Is Tales of Vesperia coming to PS3 as well as 360? It seems pretty stupid to just release it on 360 considering Namco Bandai is based in Japan.

Is Dragon Quest IV for the DS being localized for America? When should we expect it?
Thanks.

SickNick85 said...

what do you think of threespeech countdown??

the phrase is changed from "new breed of warriors will be born" similar to motorstorm prase into "the stage is set"

is a countdown for Motorstorm 2 or for what?

thank you

Anonymous said...

"Is Dragon Quest IV for the DS being localized for America? When should we expect it?"
From what I've read, the Japanese game has a largely completed English script within the ROM. It's a matter of when, really.

Couple of questions.

A) Is the big Sony betrayalaton in early 2009 something like Tekken 6 going multiplatform?

B) What are Sega Racing Studios up to? Are they working on something new or is it something us old Sega arcade fans can get excited over?

C) What are NST up to?

D) How awesome is Fatal Frame 4?

Anonymous said...

how come you never mentioned about tears of blood from GDC...whats the game like...and what defection are you talking about i'd appreciate it if you could give out a few details as to what you are exactly talking about...the only thing that is coming into my head is E.A. takeover Rockstar and going paltform exclusive and you'd know what platform I talk about here....

Anonymous said...

oh BTW way I ve noticed you do not have any info on Dark cloud 3 and the much awated psp port of Shadow of Colossus and the ICO 2..care to dig a little bit and find out more...

Alex said...

1. Seen Fallout 3 running on consoles yet? If so, smoother than console Oblivion? My concern is that Oblivion framerate/animations never really seemed very fluid and smooth, even on PC's, and I will probably get F3 on a console.

2. Level-5, when they finally clear their schedule a bit, makes Rogue Galaxy 2 and/or Dark Cloud 3?

3. Dragon Quest IV/IX DS in America: DO WANT. AM EXCITE. Will they come?(before 2012)

4. Is Digital Devil Saga a dead franchise? Or is Atlus waiting on it?

5. Team Silent (if they even exist) planning on ever doing Silent Hill games themselves again? Or are they done, and have handed the IP off to westerners for good?

6. Isn't the new PSP dock Sony announced ugly? :P

7. Which heavy hitters aimed at fall 08 do you know are definitely NOT making it by the end of the year?

8. Do you know if the recent iphone games SDK announcement will open up the pipelines for these "big" name games to come to OTHER touch phones in the future? HTC Touch, Xperia, etc.? Or are they exclusive to the iphone indefinitely due to the licensing or because of the way they were written?

9. Do you know if the games will come to ipod touch instead of being iphone exclusive? I'm not an ipod person, but i would buy an ipod touch JUST as a gaming platform if enough games came out for it. But if they come to other phones then nvm. :)

10. Are any developers/publishers really moving their development over to place PS3 as their main development platform with their multiplat games? Or are they just putting more effort into their next games? I know I seem a fanboy and all, but EA seems pretty stubborn with their flat-out refusal to develop this way, even while mentioning how much better Burnout turned out due to this practice.

Thanks for taking the time and "risk" to come on here and answer our ridiculous questions. Don't use crest alcohol-free mouthwash, it turns your teeth brown!!!! :D

Good to see the new update.

Now the questions...

1. A BioShock Sequel was officially confirmed today for a scheduled 2009. So is it going to be a sequel (hope not cause BioShock ended well imo) or like the earlier rumor a Prequel dealing with the fall of Rapture.

2. God of War: Chains of Olympus on PS2, will this ever see light of day?

3. Is it true that Quantic Dream's project, the one previously known as "Heavy Rain", is a PS3 Exclusive?

Anonymous said...

Is the 4th GTA IV trailer still hitting before March is over? Will we finally see some gameplay?

Anonymous said...

Glad to see you're back!

Is there any truth to the rumor in t he current issue of Game Informer (I think it was GI) that EA is prepping a console for 2010?

Also, Matt on the IGN Wii podcast said a new Kid Icarus game was being made for this winter...but it was hard to tell if he was being serious.
...so...was he? Is there really a new Kid Icarus game coming after all these years?!

Cruiz said...

Hi Skater Boy, welcome back :P

If you don't mind:
1) This non-PSP Patapon... is it for the PS3?

2) Gran Turismo 5 allows for extensive online play, but will the split-screen mode only allow for 2 players without any AI cars? Cause I'm hoping for some AI in offline multiplayer.

3) Sounds like Metal Gear Solid 4 is a massive game considering it didn't fully fit on a 50gb blu ray disc. Is it really that big? IS the game longer then the previous titles?

4) What form will the DLC for Grand Theft AUto 4 on xbox360 take?

5) God of War movie, is it still happening?

6) The biggie... what title is Kojima apparently working on after Metal gear Solid4 ? Will is be a PS3 title, or multiplatform?

thx

Back again...

Just been doing some reading and just to further expand on my previous question, is this big defection to do with Hideo Kojima? Is he going to MS?He won't announce what he's doing until after MGS4 and MGS:Online and that's slated to be in 2009. It has to be a big announcement otherwise he wouldn't wait close to a whole year to announce his plans unless he's been gagged? Am I even close?

Glad you're back!

Couple of questions:

Is Capcom considering retiring or canceling the Mega Man franchise? Sales haven't been their best in a while so what's going?

Potential relaunch maybe? Any info would be appreciated!

Hero of Legend said...

I have another question.

7. Sega just recently trademarked Sonic Unleashed, which console is this for? Is it perhaps the name of the new Wii game?

Thanks again!

skaterboy said...

Anon One:
The powerful next-gen ones. Capcom currently has no plans for Killer7. And you're welcome. :)

Sasquatch:
The most recent thing I was alluding to is a specific game.

Anon Two:
1) Nintendo is aware of the demand for an HDD, and is considering a few possibilities. I don't anything more specific than that.
2) There should be at least one of the usual Mario spin-offs ready to go. Aside from that, I'm not aware of too much that isn't already announced.
3) RE5 is still planned exclusively for Xbox 360 and PS3. Sorry. They have other plans for RE on Wii.
4) Nothing new in a while. Remakes are very possible, for Wii or otherwise.
5) Sadly, Shenmue is dead and buried. Sega has no plans for the series whatsoever. No Shenmue III, no Shenmue remakes, and no Shenmue compilations. Pity, for I, too, wish for closure to the series.
6) Nintendo is not planning any acquisitions of any major third-party companies at the moment. There aren't really any noteworthy series going totally exclusive at the moment, either.

lb003g0676:
Not much noteworthy Sony news at the moment. I'm pretty sure that the game in question was Heavy Rain.

Cheeznutz.:
1) At least.
2) It's possible, of course, but from what I was told a few months ago, it's still not planned for certain right now.
3) Not at the moment, sorry.

gorillamuseum:
I'm still not really crazy about it, honestly. I'd take TimeSplitters 2 over Haze any day. It's pretty good, but whether it's enough, well, you'll have to play it to find out.

Hero of legend:
I'd prefer to keep it confidential, but I do appreciate your concern very much. Thank you.
1) Basically, Nintendo and Hudson decided that an English translation was not necessary in this case. Don't expect this to be the last time they release an untranslated game on the VC. A new Milon game is certainly possible, but to my knowledge, is not planned at the moment.
2) I am unaware of the nature of AlphaDream's current project, but they are making something. Yes, they are second-party to Nintendo.
3) It's highly unlikely that there will ever be a game using that exact name.
4) Seems that way.
5) I wish I could tell you, but I don't really know.
6) No idea, sorry.

Meenkz:
It will come to PS3 eventually, but the wait could be pretty lengthy.

Anon Three:
Yes, this fall, unless it slips behind.

SickNick85:
As you've no doubt seen, it was Motorstorm 2.

pointman_4000:
A) Bigger.
B) A little bit of both.
C) I'm afraid I don't really know.
D) Very, especially for fans of the series.

1000:
1) I have never seen or heard of a PS3 game by that name. I can hardly hint at the "defection" (if that's what you want to call it) without giving it away. If EA does manage to acquire Take-Two (EA is not trying to acquire Rockstar, per se; they're going after Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive), they will not have them go exclusive to any one platform. EA strategy relies heavily on non-exclusivity.
2) Dark Cloud 3 is not in production at the moment. Expect Rogue Galaxy 2 before Dark Cloud 3. There are no PSP ports of either Shadow of the Colossus or Ico in development.

Alex:
1) Not in person, no.
2) Both are planned, eventually, but not necessarily guaranteed to happen. Rogue Galaxy 2 would come first, though.
3) Yes, both are coming stateside. DQIV is supposed to happen this fall.
4) Not necessarily dead, but nothing with that name is in development at the moment, to my knowledge.
5) Team Silent is not officially dissolved, but the team members are all working on various other projects within Konami, at the moment.
6) Could be better, I suppose. I think the remote is pretty neat, though.
7) I'm not 100% sure about any, really.
8) I'm unaware of videogame plans for those other devices. The iPhone is far more popular than either of those, so I'm not sure there is enough market interest to lure big publishers to those devices.
9) The new SDK facilitates development for both platforms, so the games should be able to run on either device. I'd imagine publishers will make their games available for both, if they're smart.
10) Some developers are, yes.
You're welcome, and thanks for the, ahem, advice.

nameless1:
1) Prequel.
2) Yes.
3) Yes. In fact, Sony itself is going to publish it. It's still called "Heavy Rain."

Anon Four:
1) I don't know what's in the next trailer, but I've heard it should be out later this month.

sammy:
1) No. That was probably an April Fool's joke.
2) There will be one, eventually. Dunno about this winter, though...

CruizD:
1) At least.
2) I'm pretty sure that it allows for that.
3) I dunno, could be hype-building. I've heard it's supposed to be of similar length to previous games in the series.
4) Lengthy story-based mission content, seemingly episodic/semi-self-contained in nature. Enough hours of new gameplay to require at least both hands to count 'em.
5) I don't really know anything about that.
6) The game component of Project 'S', for starters.

sasquatch:
Maybe. I don't want to say too much, for a couple of reasons.

Anon Five:
No, they wouldn't dream of retiring the franchise. It still brings in cash. Expect more Star Force games and a big new game for the next-gen systems, and a Wii-exclusive game.

Hero of legend:
7) It's probably the Wii one, but I can't be sure.

Hi Skaterboy, I'm from Italy, excuse me for my bad english :)
Thank you for your fantastic blog.

I want to ask you if you know something about the games that MS will show at the E3.
Will there any surprise? Can you tell me anything? Do you think that MS will have a good 2008/2009?

The last question: I'm glad for Lost Planet: Colonies, but I'm waiting for a real sequel. Do you think that for the TGS '08 we'll have any news about it?

Thank you very much!

If you can not say WTF is that defection,at least,"would you kindly" say it is going to xbox or wii.and at early 2009 it will be announced or comes out?

4/With EA buying Take-Two, any chance for Bioshock on PS3?and Bioshock2 will be multiplat, right?

Anonymous said...

The "defection" is MICROSOFT will buy CAPCOM.
next

Anonymous said...

I understand that you can't give away much information, but could the defection game from sony be FF13? by the previous comments and your responses i think its probably linked to loss of exclusivity. A game bigger than tekken 6, it could be mgs4 but that game has said to being exclusive countless times by sony, hideo and konami. That therefore leaves FF13 in terms of the big third party games!

Anonymous said...

about that defection,is it an already announced ps3 title that goes multiplat or an already announced ps3 title that goes

exclusive to x360 or a suppose to be ps3 exclusive yet to be announced that goes multiplat or
a suppose to be ps3 exclusive yet to be announced goes exclusive to x360????or maybe wii????
come on for god sake i can't stop speculating!

Anonymous said...

He Skaterboy!

Big thx again for anwsering my questions!

i have another big question: is bioshock 2 funded by ms? is it exclusive to x360 and pc? are they keeping it a secret until a big show (like e3?)

Anonymous said...

WOO HOO FF7 REMAKE FOR XBOX360 CONFIRMED IN EARLY 2009

Anonymous said...

Ok, you're leading us to speculate that it's MGS4 or FF13. Your comments on MGS4 being too big for Blu-ray as propoganda make me believe that we may be seeing it on X360? Coupled with the Hideo Kojima announcement and the constant rumours of it being ported, I'm starting to see this as definite?

But then, FF13 could also be heading over to X360 even though it has been stated that it is PS3 exclusive. (Nothing remains exclusive these days) Add to the mix that the White thingy engine created by Sqeenix is being made for the PS3 and X360 and Wii in some form, I cant help but speculate that it could be this. They're both massive games that will hopefully drive sales for PS3, so it would be a large shock if either of these two went to X360. But which one Skaterboy?

Anonymous said...

Do you think NST is working on Pikmin 3?

Anonymous said...

Please confirm the following

Tekken 6 is going onto the 360...heard this from a guy who has 98% accuracy in leaking out stuff...

How come you've never heard of Tears of Blood...It was at GDC showcased to the media..its a hyper blown 3d online jaw dropping visual Streets of RAGe exclusive on the PS3

Come on drop a few hints so that we might atleat speculate about the deflection

Bioshock 2 is definitely staying on the MS platform

and yeah r* PS3 exclusive aint red dead revolver 2 its called" noose" or something...

Anonymous said...

Hi. Thanks for all the answers to our questions!

I've got a quick PS3 hardware question for you. Other than the new DualShock 3 controllers coming in June, is there any reason to not pick up an 80GB PS3 now? Normally I'd be fine with waiting, but it seems like every time they make a hardware change, features disappear.

Anonymous said...

Do you know more about the Project 'S' Game?

skaterboy said...

Anon One:
Do you mean games that will be published by Microsoft themselves? If that is the case, Gears of War 2 and Halo Chronicles are centerpieces, this year. I think the next couple of years will be very good, yes.
There will be a sequel to Lost Planet, but I'm not sure about when they might announce it.
Your English is very nice, by the way! :)

Anon Two:
You know, thinking about it, I'd rather not refer to it a "defection" anymore. It's not like the game won't still be on PS3; it just won't be permanently exclusive, that's all. You will know about it by early 2009.
No, it's not the FF7 remake, which, by the way, is not really a full-blown remake. From what I know of it, it's more of an enhanced port. Don't expect it to resemble that tech demo from E3 2005.

Anon Three:

Anon Four:
1) Cancelled, I believe.
2) Also cancelled.
3) "Tears of Blood" is the subtitle of the PS2 RPG "Magna Carta," which was released back in 2005. The recent reports of a PS3 game by that name appear to be a hoax.
4) Let's wait to see if that takeover actually happens. Microsoft wants Bioshock 2 as an exclusive.

Anon Five:
No.

Anon Six:

Anon Seven:
The PS3 and it's userbase won't be losing anything, so no one really has reason to get too upset.

TheSameOld:
Microsoft wants very badly for it to be an Xbox 360/Games for Windows exclusive, and are willing to go to great lengths to secure it as one.

fishd:
No.

sasquatch:

Anon Eight:
I doubt it.

1000:
1) I doubt it, but it's possible.
2) I didn't see anything matching that description. If it does exist, then it's possible that I just wasn't inside whatever closed doors they showed it behind, but as far as I can tell, the reports of this "Tears of Blood" game are a hoax that originated from a post on a very suspicious-looking MySpace blog.
3) No comment.
4) Microsoft is campaigning for it to remain exclusive.
5) I don't know what name they're going to give their new Western game.

Anon Nine:
Well, remember that in June, there will be a bundle including an 80GB PS3, a DualShock 3, and a copy of Metal Gear Solid 4, retailing for $499. Aside from that, now is a fine time, I suppose. I'm unaware of plans to remove any more major features in the future.

Anon Ten:
Nothing new, at the moment. To my knowledge, it's not in full-blown production, yet. Regardless, I'm looking forward to the return of Snatcher very much.

Hero of Legend said...

Thanks for those answers again!

1. Any idea what Sega Studios USA is working on now that NiGHTS is finished? Is it for Wii?

2.Anything new about Prope's Wii game?

3. Sorry if this was answered already, but what is NST working on right now? Speaking of which, why was Project H.A.M.M.E.R. cancelled?

4. You mentioned that Crash Bandicoot Snatchers is similar to Titans, what are the biggest differences? Like is it a free roaming game like Twinsanity?

5. I assume that Rare is not allowed to work on WiiWare due to the existence of XBLA right?

6. If or even when the time comes that Microsoft does make their own handheld, will they ban Rare from making games on Nintendo's handhelds?

7. Is the Bomberman Wii game shown in Famitsu yesterday for WiiWare, or retail?

8. Will Hudson ever make a Bomberman game for the Wii like Bomberman 64 or Generation? Maybe a hybrid! Generation had great cel shaded graphics and that pet idea looked neat (I never played Generation, I can't find it anywhere!)

Are all the team members from 64 and Generation still at Hudson?

Thanks!

Thank you very much Skaterboy (I'm still the anonymous from Italy). Speaking about the E3, do you know anything about any great "third party" esclusive for the XBOX360?
Is it true the story of a huge price drop for the 360 before GTAIV?
Is it possible a bundle GTAIV+360?

Thank you very much.

Ah so that game is still coming out on the PS3 then after all, it just wont be exclusive anymore. I'm starting to doubt that the game is MGS4 since it seems 09 would be a bit late, but Konami could still release that on the 360 and PS3 as some sort of special edition later down the line at a lower price.
I'd have to guess that it has to be something from Square Enix, either FF13 or Versus (or even both). There's no way FF13 is going to be released this year so it has to be it. Considering that you'd rather not comment on the specific game I wont ask which one it is.

1.)I would like to ask why is that formerly exclusive game going multi-platform? Are Sony not willing to buy the exclusivity or is the publisher/developer trying to maximize their profits by releasing the game on more than one platform? Seems to have been a good decision for Capcom with Devil May Cry 4.

2.) Can we expect a sequel to any of Game Rupublic's current PS3 games before the release of their 2010 movie game? Folklore 2? Genji 3?

3.) Speaking of Game Republic when can we expect a release of Dark Mist (their Playstation Network title)on the US PSN and Euro PSN?

4.) Do you have any information about the 2D (or 2.5D)Uncharted game? Is it going to be playable only through HOME or will you be able to play if off the hard drive like current Playstation Network games?

5.) Which will be released first, Resistance 2 or Uncharted 2?

6.) Will Heavy Rain be released in '08?

7.) Yakuza 3 US/Euro release?

8.) Since Home's going to have trophies can we expect updates for most PS3 games in the near future? Are all games going to be supported? If not are Sony themselves going to make each game have trophies?

9.) Are Sony looking to buy Game Republic or Q Games? Any other smaller developers?

10.) Possibility of Rez HD release on PSN?

11.) Are more big developers pursuing downloadable games like Capcom?

12.) Is Patapon PS3 going to play like Patapon PSP or play differently like Locoroco Cocoreccho compared to Locoroco PSP?

13.) Can we expect a HD version of ThatGameCompany's Cloud? When will we get more news about Flower? Do you believe it will be released this spring or late '08?

14.) Seems like Valve wants to release their new Team Fortress 2 updates for the Orange Box on consoles as downloadable content. When do you think PS3 owners will be able to download that? Is Sony looking to charge for the extra content? Do you think the patch for the Orange Box on PS3 will be released before that? Or do you believe it would be included in the update (if it was free)?

What has come of the PS3 games below?

1) Eight Days.
2) Fifth Phantom Saga.
3) Eyedentify.
4) Afrika.
5) Whats this whole "defective" PS3 title everyone is mentioning in this post? Care to enlighten me on the situation as I have no idea what is going on. Thanks!

Anonymous said...

About the defection are you sure or just speculate that it should happen thanks to M$(with dollar sign!) money?

Anonymous said...

Ok, this is the last time I'll bug you about this!

You made a comment, or "a no comment" infact when asked as to whether Insomniac would be going multi -plat. Now this has got me thinking. We are looking at the most obvious exclusives on the PS3, MGS4 and FF13, but what about others, namely Resistance: FOM2? Your reluctance to answer if Insomniac are going multi-plat has me thinking. The developers aren't owned by Sony and aren't obligated to make games for them. They haven't really stated that they have an exclusive deal with Sony and were recently interviewed in which they stated they were impressed by multi-format sales. To think of it, I have yet to hear that R:FOM2 is "exclusive". Could we be overlooking this fact and that R:FOM2 or even other IPs appear on the X360?

Anonymous said...

sony is the publisher of RFOM2 and owns the IPs but why did you say no comment.later you answered to hte same question with extremly unlikely!?

Anonymous said...

there is 2 big 3rd party exclusive on ps3,ffxiii and mgs4.you said the defection will happen by early 2009 and you said
it just won't be permanently exclusive to ps3,so it means a timed exclusive.it won't be ff cause by early 2009 it will come

out for ps3!.i was sure at some point mgs4 will come to x360 but with that "can't be fit on a 50GB disk", if we assume game

engine files be 5GB then other data like audio,texture,... is 45Gb.there is 8GB on every DVD9 and even less due to heavy

encryption .well there will be just 3GB room on every disk and 45/3=15 DISKS!!!.now i am sure it won't happen.

Hero of legend
1) Investigating.
2) Nothing specific, quite yet.
3) I don't know the specifics of their new project, but it is for Wii. Project H.A.M.M.E.R. was put on hold because it was ultimately a low-priority project, and Nintendo decided that they wanted the development resources invested in the game to be redirected elsewhere (NST's new project, to be specific).
4) I don't really know. I only caught a glimpse of it, to be honest.
5) Even if XBLA didn't exist, Microsoft would not be allowing one of their wholly-owned divisions to develop for a competing console.
6) Moot point, because indeed, Microsoft is not going to make a handheld.
7) Haven't seen it, sorry.
8) I don't rightly know. I did enjoy those particular games, though.

Anon One:
You mean unannounced exclusives? Hmm, nothing I can think of right now.
The price of all three Xbox 360 models dropped by about 20% each in Europe today (March 14). It won't drop again for a while, though.
I have not heard about any sort of GTAIV bundles, sorry.

Anon Two:
1) The publisher wants to maximize their profits, understandably. It's simple business sense.
2) I don't know, sorry.
3) Within a few months, at most.
4) My understanding is that you access it from within Home.
5) Resistance 2 will come many months before Uncharted 2. Uncharted 2 won't be happening until mid-2009 at the earliest.
6) If it sticks to schedule. A delay would not surprise me, though.
7) It's planned, yes.
8) Trophy support will not be mandatory, but you'll see them in most games, anyways.
9) Not to my knowledge.
10) It's possible.
11) Yes. It's a fairly low-risk market, and allows for quick turnaround, which is very attractive to publishers.
12) Not sure, I just know that you'll see the name elsewhere.
13) I don't know, honestly.
14) Dunno about a target date, but any updates will almost certainly be free (it's not Sony's call on whether they're free or not). I dunno what Valve's schedule on these updates is, and they have a general disregard for such things as it is, so I have no idea when you should expect any updates or fixes.

Meenkz:
1) Development is coming along, and Sony plans to show it at E3.
2) Stalled/Put on hold, because it was absolutely awful.
3) Stalled, last I heard, because they were unable to get anything even remotely resembling an actual working and playable game out of it.
4) Nearing completion.
5) A game once believed to be a permanent PS3 exclusive will ultimately end up as a timed exclusive.

SNAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!:
It's about 96% sure to happen, at the moment. It doesn't really have anything to do with Microsoft's money; it far more to do with their user base. Please, don't do the juvenile M$-with-the-dollar-sign thing here.

sasquatch:
The Resistance IP is owned by Sony, so that series will remain exclusive to their systems.

ahem:
The question to which I replied "No comment" was not asking if Resistance 2 would go multiplatform (which, of course, it won't). It was asking if the developer, Insomniac Games, would consider multiplatform development. Big difference.
I also did not say that the game in question will experience multiplatform release in early 2009. I simply said that the public should be aware of it's multiplatform status by then.
Also, please keep amateur speculation regarding technical matters out of these comments; this isn't the place for that, and I'd rather not clutter it up with such things.

Excuse me Skaterboy, When I asked you about a price drop, I was talking about the USA not about EU (where i live) =)
Do you think that a price drop in the USA for the 360 is coming?

I'm surprised people are overreacting so much about that title that is going multiplateform, I'm sure you will think about it twice next time you will want to announce a news like this. Some people care too much about exclusivity(not sure why)

anyway the game Recoil: Retrogad was announced not too long ago and the settings and story seemed pretty interesting, is that a title to look forward to?

Anonymous said...

Thank you for replying to our questions Skater Boy.

1. Are Microsoft facing the same problem as far as exclusivity goes? Are they more willing to pay for exclusives than Sony seems to?

2. If EA does buy Take Two do you believe the DLC for Grand Theft Auto IV would continue to remain exclusive for the 360?

3. When do you believe we'll see more of White Knight Story?

4. Do you think we'll see more of the 'Playstation Phone' at this year's E3? Are any developers working on games for it?

5. In the US when do you think the PSN cards will be widely available?

6. Will we ever see downloadable PS2 games on the PSN? Are Sony waiting for the PS2 demand to lessen before pursuing this?

7. Do you believe next year the PS3 will see a bigger push from Japanese developers?

8. On the console front do think we'll ever see episodic games?

9. Will Sony ever release a standalone bluetooth headset?

10. Will Metronome ever be released on consoles? Is anyone looking to publish the game such as Sony?

PSM3 post a rumor from 1 "insider" and they write: A sequel for a popular Xbox 360 title will be ‘received’ soon, and that it will be making its first appearance on the PS3, he also states this isn’t Lost Planet.

Is it possible? Title?

Mass effect 2/bioshock 2/Gears 2 is possible a future port of one of this game?

Please run the story on the big defected game. I don't think it's FF XIII or MGS4?

And four things.

1. By gen's end which console (Wii, PS3, 360) will have the most JRPGs (exclusive or multi)?

2. Which system will FF Haeresis XIII be on?

3. Can you tell when you expect these games to be announced?

Kingdom Hearts III
Suikoden VI
Project S
FF Haeresis XIII
Skies of Arcadia 2
Monolith Soft x Matsuno Wii RPG

4. Reggie said that at E3 Nintendo will announce a big game for the holiday and other big games for the "gamer" and "expanded audience." What could they be do you think?

Hey Skaterboy, been reading the blog for a while and I was wondering if you could give any incite to which platform Star Ocean 4 is releasing on. I know Square-Enix is an eastern publisher and they have previously released a lot of their major titles on the PlayStation, but with their decision to release Infinite Undiscovery exclusively on the 360 and Tri-Ace who are developing Tales of Vesperia and releasing that with Namco Bandai exclusively on the 360 as well, it's hard to tell where Star Ocean 4 could go.

Disregarding the fact that Star Ocean 2 and 3 have both been on the PlayStation, Star Ocean 4's platform still hasn't been announced, so it looks like it could end up anywhere. I was just wondering if you knew if Star Ocean 4 would be coming to the PS3 anytime at all. As an exclusive, multi-platform, or whatever.

I have a question.

Is Crash: Invasion of the Bandicoot Snatchers the final name, or a temporary name?

skaterboy said...

Anon One:
Oh, I see. I'm not really sure, but it's very possible. Don't expect much warning, when the next price drop does arrive.

gorillamuseum:
Indeed, I am getting a little tired of some of the reactions to stories regarding any sort of platform exclusivity. At least my commenters here seem to be mostly civil, and I thank you all for that.
The setting for Recoil looks pretty good, I think, but I haven't seen any gameplay yet. The title has a ways to go.

sasquatch:
I don't mind. That's why I'm here. :)

Anon Two:
Nothing unannounced, that I know of. Otherwise, though, they're be showing pretty much everything they've got. Their five major downloadable titles (BC:Rearmed, SSFIITHDR, 1942:JS, Plunder, and Commando 3), Bionic Commando, RE5, Okami, Lost Planet Colonies; they'll all be there. The only things I'm not sure about are Dark Void, We Love Golf, and RE0. They have at least one PSP project in the works, but it's pretty early, and I don't think it'll be at CGD.

1000:
The only 360 exclusive from Capcom that I know about is Lost Planet (which is also coming to PC). Gears of War 2 will be at E3.

Anon Three:
1) Saying that anyone is "paying for exclusives" is kind of a nasty-sounding way to put it. Why not call it "aggressively securing strategic exclusivity agreements"?
2) No idea.
3) E3 is when you'll see it in English.
4) I'm not convinced that the PlayStation-branded phone is getting off the ground anytime soon.
5) By May or June, probably.
6) Not planned right now. The fact that many PS3s now do not support hardware-based backwards-compatibility does not bode well for the chances of this ever happening.
7) I suppose.
8) Episodic games are in the works for all three consoles. Rat Race will see it's first release on PS3 later this year (I don't think it looks very interesting, though), and Telltale has a project in the works for Wii, to name a couple examples.
9) Probably.
10) The game is "on hold," last I heard, so barring some sort of miracle, I doubt it'll ever be completed. A pity, as it was looking very nice.

SickNick85:
Probably Mass Effect 2. It's a ways off, though...

Johnny 5:
Stuck in pre-production, last I heard, but it's a high-priority title that's pretty much guaranteed to see release, eventually.

Anon Four:
1) Sorry, but they really do keep that info under lock and key.
2) Same as above.
3) I was going to mention Epic, but it appears that's already happened. I had heard it wouldn't happen until April, but it looks like they were ready ahead of schedule.

CruizD:
1) Almost certainly not in 2008.
2) There will be several more this year.
3) The game that Cory Balrog is making with George Miller will be multiplatform.
4) All of those publishers have games coming for PSP.
5) Probably not. Same goes for Afterburner Climax, on any platform.
6) Aside from Twisted Metal PS3? I don't know.
7) Wii, last I heard (but that was a while ago).

1000 and sasquatch:
The abusive comments from those two Anonymouses have been removed, as you can see. The sort of behavior that they demonstrated will not be tolerated here. Thank you for your support, and don't worry, they aren't enough of a bother to discourage me from continuing this blog.

CruizD
7) Nope.
8) Also nope.
9) Summer. New online and offline multiplayer features, tweaked video and sound, and an editor of some sort.
10) Dissidia, yes. Kingdom Hearts, probably not, but still possible.

Anon Five:
A Star Wars game.

yay:
I'd rather not endure the hatestorm that'd come my way if I came out and posted it.
1) Beats me.
2) Ahem...I want to dodge that question, for the moment.
3) There might be a tease for KH3 late this year. It's very likely that both Suikoden VI and the Monolith/Matsuno RPG will both have some sort of announcement before year's end. The Project S game and FF Haeresis XIII, I wouldn't count on seeing announced this year. Skies of Arcadia 2 is probably not happening at all.
4) I'll see what I can find out about Nintendo's holiday plans. Keep an eye on the blog. If nothing else, I'd bet that the "gamer" title he was referring to is Zelda.

Anon Six:
Well, you may have read that here, I suppose.
Anyways, yes, last I heard, the Project 'S' game is planned for Wii, and yes, it's the Snatcher revival that Kojima and Suda 51 are collaborating on. By the way, Project 'S' refers to more than just the new game; it refers to an entire series of new Snatcher-related media projects, the first of which is a Japanese radio play.
Your English is very nice, by the way! :)

w00t:
See above.

SickNick85:
That lawsuit is total nonsense, and MKR Group doesn't have a leg to stand on, or a chance of winning the case. Regardless, Dead Rising is not coming to PS3, but such a port was never planned. Dead Rising 2 is a different story, though...

Allumette:
Star Ocean 4 is planned for both PS3 and Xbox 360, last I heard.

Joe Cool:
I've never heard of that person. That blog is hideous, though, and a huge pain to read. I don't see any interesting info there.

Anon Seven:
You're free to believe whatever you please about my information.
I would like to say, however, that the reason that some of my answers are "vague," is because some of my sources and connections provide me with vague information. I don't have detailed, 100% up-to-the-minute information about every single thing going on at every single developer and publisher in the business, and neither does anyone else. I am not, and have never claimed to be, an omnipresent all-seeing-eye. I simply have some connections, sources, and relationships that allow me to be privy to a good deal of non-public information, which I am willing to share. I answer as many questions as I have decent information for, but if I don't know anything about a given question, I will say so. I can't promise that I'll be able to answer every single question posed to me, I still would like to encourage my readers and commenters to keep the questions coming. I will do the best that I can to answer each and every one.

Is Gears of War 2 a timed CONSOLE exclusive for 360? (we all know it will go to PC later)or has MS 'locked it up' as full exclusive.

Similarly, a comment from the Mass Effect devs stated that ME2 would remain exclusive on the Xbox 360, at least in “the universe of the consoles of the living room". does this suggest no PS3 version despite EA being a multiplat dev?

Can you clarify the status of HAZE being a TIMED or FULL PS3 exclusive because their have been some contradicting statements made recently. Thank you!

In case it's not obvious by this point, I hardly know anything about the new Crash game. Sorry.

Anon One:
The game is not "defective;" it functions properly. Again, it's just a former exclusive going multi-platform.

Anon Two:
Gears of War 2 will eventually come to PC. Mass Effect will almost certainly go multiplatform.

Hey, just a quick question:

when asked about Nintendo's Holiday line-up you said it was probably Zelda that Reggie was referring to. Do you mean the 'main' zelda entry that we've all been waiting for, or the retro studios one that you mentioned a few times? This is sort of confusing for me as Miyamoto (I think)once said a zelda game has a typical 3 year development cycle. It's only been about a year and a half since the release of TP, and by the time the holidays roll around, it'll only be two years, plus Nintendo is pretty bad when it comes to meeting deadlines for their main franchises.

and thanks :)

oh also please reveal the new multiplatform game that was formerly exclusive so I can release a hate storm on you

just kidding

What I meant by that, was that I was hope to not go for weeks without answering questions here in the comments, again. I sort of consider the comments Q&A to be largely the focus of the blog.

CruizD:
2) I'm not really clear of the specifics of the process, but I believe that it is publisher-driven.

SickNick85:
I think that Dark Sector is pretty good. If nothing else, there is the novelty that it was the first-announced seventh-generation game (well, unless you count Robota, but that never actually entered production).
And as far as LA Noire goes, I can only say "maybe."

Anon Five:
Sky Crawlers is being developed by the Ace Combat team. Need I say more? Soul Calibur Legends is best forgotten, but Sky Crawlers is looking very nice.
I haven't heard anything about Turrican since last time.

Anon Six:
Unknown, sorry.

Anon Seven:
I haven't heard of any other PC-exclusive games in the works at Bioware. Anything could happen, of course.

The End of Yaru:
The "main" one, probably.

CruizD:
3) Haven't heard about that, sorry.
4) ZOE3 will happen, someday.
5) The first Mass Effect will remain exclusive to Xbox 360 and Windows. Looking forward, though, EA is very multiplatform-centric.
6) They have a broad range of influences.
7) Not that I know of.

Yes:
I wish I could say "yes," but I have not heard of one.

Hero of legend:
You've probably already had your question answered by now...

blearghhh:
1) I don't know of a game by that name. Sony does not appear to be interested in revisiting Legeng of Dragoon.
2) Yup.
3) FFXIII, I doubt it; ToV, probably; SO4, doubt it; WNC, yes; Eternal Sonata, yes.

Anon Eight:
That appears to be an art-scene demo, not a game. There is a decades-old tradition of groups of computer artists producing (usually non-interactive) demonstrations of their artistic abilities. You can read more about this culture here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demo_%28computer_programming%29

SickNick85:
See above. I'm not aware of that being an actual game, but I could be wrong.

Anon Nine:
Sure thing!
1) Maybe.
2) Yes.
3) I think it has some pretty interesting ideas, but
4) This September.
5) Not really, other than that you will see more about it soon.
6) Something like that.
7) I don't expect either of them to see release this year.
8) Not the first one. Future installments will be multiplatform, though.
9) No, sorry.
Your English is very nice, by the way!

Dancrane212:
1) I, personally, am quite impressed with the Bionic Commando community that Capcom is tending to. However, I think they intend to keep RE5 a little more under wraps.
2) Haven't heard of one.
3) Mass Effect is an EA property now. Future installments will be multiplatform.
4) Was once in development, but it's long dead, now.
5) Sorry, I can't disclose that right now.
6) Capcom is planning to release a flagship new Mega Man title by 2010.
7) See above.
8) I haven't heard anything about that, nope.
And by the way, feel free to ask as many questions as you like. It doesn't bother me. :)

CruizD:
8) I haven't heard about that, but I'm investigating it.
9) RE5 has been targeted for a 2009 release for quite some time, now.

Hi there skaterboy, thanx for your answers. I am the last anonymous you we're answering.

So does FF 13/ Versus really come on 360/ wii? If so im gonna trade in my ps3 right now.

Anonymous said...

I was wondering why you think less people know about you over sufergirl. There are a lot of posts of her news on Neogaf and N4G

So I was just wondering if you like being more in the background or would like to see your posts make front page news on those sites.

So do you wish more people knew about you or not.

Plus any chance you will post more info going on in the video game indestry or will you be just doing Q&A from now on.

1) Read a rumor about Fallout 3 to become a PS3 exclusive. Any truth to that?
2) Any good multiplatform titles announced going PS3 exclusive?

Anonymous said...

So about this exclusive ps3 game going to the 360 as well. Will you tell us before the game releases for examplr if the game is MGS4 I would rather wait and get it on 360(I prefer the controller) but I don't want to by MGS4 on the ps3 then findout it is coming out on 360.

Anonymous said...

@dancrane212
MGS4 isn't possible on 360, not enough performance and MGS4 is 50gb big, would make alot of DVD's... And Kojima would never want his game on multiple dvd's, hes a perfectionist..

Anonymous said...

Couple of questions.

A) Is the big Sony betrayalaton in early 2009 something like Tekken 6 going multiplatform?

pointman_4000:
A) Bigger.

Im the ano who asks if FF13/ Versus will go multi-platform.. In all ur answers u dont expect FF13/ V to release in 2008, so what i think is that SE will announce in early 2009 that FF13 will go multiplatform. Am i a little right?

OH it should've been (Read above)

According to some rumours by egm, sony liverpool is doing an action game called the protector, would you know anything about this?

Anonymous said...

Huh? What do you mean Skies of Arcadia 2 might not be happening at all? They've already confirmed it was in development and the creator (I think?) said it again about 2-3 months ago.

skaterboy you suck at blogging.. you never do it... and then u say ur going to not take vacations between post, but you do.. ur garbage

@ cj. Not everyone bases their live around posting on blog so grow up.

Anyways I got somemore qestions to drop.

1. Will Nintendo's Zelda game have anything in common with Retros Zelda?

2. Will they both get shown at the same time (both games officaly anounced before one releases)

3. This seems alittle strange for Nintendo usally it's one game at a time any reasons why this is different?

4. Did Retro ask to work on Zelda or was it Nintendo's decision?

5. Will we ever see Mech Assault 3 I really liked the first two.

6. Is there a sequel to Metal Gear Portable Ops for the psp in the works?

7. All this talk about Camelot has got me thinking of a Golden Sun Sequel, will it happen, on Wii or DS? It is one of the only JRPGS I've enjoyed.

Thanks alot.

When will the Retro Zelda be annnounced?

lb003g0676:
1) I think their new game looks pretty good.
2) E3.
3) E3.
4) E3 at the earliest.
5) E3.
6) I don't know.

Anon One:
No comment, sorry.

Joe Cool:
I don't know, nor do I really concern myself with it too much. I'm comfortable with my current audience, but if I suddenly had an influx of thousands of new daily readers, that would be fine, as well. I do not self-promote the blog, but I also do not intentionally do anything to remain "in the background," as it were. If any of my readers would like to link to or promote the blog in any way, that'd be fine, and I do offer my thanks for "spreading the word," but don't feel obligated to. Certainly, I'd be glad to have more interested readers sending me questions, as I'm always glad to answer them. And yes, I will continue to do blog posts, hopefully more frequently. I was going to post one today, but seeing as how it's April Fool's Day, I decided it best to wait until tomorrow.

Anon Two:
1) Absolutely not.
2) Nothing worth mentioning that I know of.

dancrane212:
No comment, sorry.

Anon Three:
Please, do not engage in amateur technical speculation here. I will likely start to delete comments containing such nonsense in the future.

Anon Four:
No comment, sorry.

gorillamuseum:
Nope, haven't heard of a game by that name.

yay:
As you may know, things aren't as good as they could be for Sega right now. Such conditions often force low-priority projects to be put on hold. There is little market potential for a Skies of Arcadia sequel, so it's looking like it will have to take a backseat to "sure bets" like the next Sonic sequels and whatnot. Also, I have never seen any public confirmation of the game being in development. Where did you see that, may I ask?

cj:
I meant that I intend to not go for weeks without doing the Q&A in the comments, which I consider to be the real meat of this blog. This isn't my full-time job, sorry.

Dancrane212:
1) Yes.
2) Unsure.
3) I'm sure they have some corporate line about "maximizing the potential of our brands and properties," or something like that.
4) I don't really know.
5) No.
6) Not that I know of.
7) Unconfirmed.

yay:
Unsure, sorry.

If you'd like your information to be broadcasted more widely, I could submit your entries on N4G. I am sure they would pass through.

Thanks, I am glad to hear this years E3 will be big for Sony.

I am sure Microsoft have a lot stored for it aswell. Just generally a great event for gaming.

I can't wait to hear from titles we haven't heard from since '06 or '05.

I heard some weird rumors and would like to know if they are true or not. The rumors have to do with Sony's gamers day and E3.

Sony will show seven new games. None of them are PSN games and three of them will come out this year and the rest will come out in either 09 or 2010.

Three of the seven are sequels the rest are new IPs.

Afrika will be talked more about. Plus will have a new name. Some info on a new Twisted Metal, The Getaway 3, Eight Days will have a new name. Plus a hit of whats to come with God of War.

New projects of : zipper , incognito , insomniac & Naughty dog will be talked about.

Last but not least the rumor says that Sony bought a major third party member.

I am serious, i have noticed that when ever someone is insecure about their English you give them support, that is very nice of you.

You need to make a new post, if only because it's been over a month and it's more user friendly to have multiple little comment sections as opposed to one gargantuan one.

Hey Skater Boy, thanks for the blog!

Just a few questions:

1. Will the actual points part of "Achievement Points" be added to the PS3, or just the graphical trophies?

2. What was removed from the Australian version of GTA4?

3. What sort of release window are we looking at for FFXIII? Will the Japanese and International versions ship at the same time or will we see a March Japanese release and a September US one again?

4. Will the GoldenEye remake which surfaced a while back actually see the light of day?

5. Will Elder Scrolls V be an MMO? (Please say no)

6. Any more details on this "enhanced port" of FFVII?

7. Alan Wake, this year or no?

8. Which month is Too Human going to be released?

9. What's happening with the Chrono franchise?

10. Will Nintendo release a proper Pokemon game on the Wii, or are they content printing money from the DS?

11. Castlevania news? PSN/XBL or DS release for the new game?

12. Will Neversoft rip off Skate this year or try to come up with some other way to redeem the Tony Hawk franchise? Let's hope it's on a years break. Knowing Activision though, that seems unlikely.

Thanks!

lb003g0676 said...

On the subject of TES V.

It WILL NOT be an MMO, otherwise it won't be TES.

But this is very specific. Will the writer who worked on Shivering Isles be back on for TES V. Will they atleast try to compromise between fans and mainstream this time?

Becuase Cyrodiil is supposed to be jungle, and the events with canon, the detaisl of the storyline weren't, and the beastiary was incorrect.

Any idea Skaterboy? Becuase it is pretty specific.
