Stories for January 27, 2008

- At the moment, it's a safe bet that you'll be able to play as both Star Wars characters in both versions of Soul Calibur IV (and that you'll have to pay a few extra bucks to do so via DLC; in fact, I almost expect Namco to pull an "EA," and have the data actually on the discs, which you then pay to unlock).

- An exclusive Metal Gear game on Wii? Totally. Note the lack of the word "Solid."

- Suda 51 and Hideo Kojima's Project 'S' will absolutely result in a new Snatcher game, but not until Suda and Kojima's current projects are done.

- A Cloverfield game? Nah...not right now anyways. Perhaps for the sequel.

Nice blog :)

so, whats up with MegaMan in 2008?

Sup Skater Dude, if you don't mind, I have a few questions.

1) Will Sony have their own exclusive GTAIV downloadable content?

2) Is "The Crossing" and "Left4Dead" coming to the PS3?

3) Do you know anything about Mega Man Legends 3 [on the PS3]?

4) When will new information on Eight Days, The Getaway, Eyedentify, and other quiet titles be revealed?

5) Is Sony going to enhance the PlayStation Network so that it can compete with Live?

6) Last question. When will Valve/EA patch The Orange Box on the PS3?

Thank you so much!

Hey skater boy, great blog...keep it up! :)

A few questions;

1) Do you know if Square Enix plan to release a Final Fantasy Tactics sequel?
2) Do you have any information on Infamous on the PS3? How's it looking?
3) Rumours suggest Killer Instinct 3 is on the cards, but is it only a Wii exclusive?

Thanks skater boy.

Couple questions for you

1) I heard that Rockstar might be possibly be brining some original IP to the Wii. Is this true? If so, any ideas on how it'll turn out?

2)Any idea what will be in GTA4's downloadable content?

3)Is the Metal Gear game the one of the projects that Ryan Payton was hinting about in an earlier podcast?

Great blog man, great blog! =]

Anon One:
A Wii game, and some more Star Force games for DS. That's all that's clear right now.

Anon Two:
1) Nope.
2) Once the PS3 implementation of Source is improved, The Crossing will be considered. If Left 4 Dead comes to PS3, Valve/Turtle Rock's involvement will be pretty minimal.
3) Not right now.
4) Those will probably be split between E3 and Sony Gamer's Day. Depends on what else Sony has ready to show at each event.
5) They're sure gonna try. They're counting on Home to really hit it big.
6) Wish I could say for sure, but hey, you know how Valve is about keeping track of time, eh? ;)

Anon Three:
1) Well, FF Tactics A2 should hit the US later this year. But a direct sequel to the PS1 original? That'd be news to me.
2) You'll be seeing it before too long (maybe before E3), and it looks to be coming along pretty well. Sucker Punch also isn't abandoning Sly, in case there was any question about that.
3) KI3 will be an Xbox 360 exclusive.

Rob:
1) It's all drawing board, last I heard.
2) Lengthy story-based mission content, seemingly episodic/semi-self-contained in nature. Enough hours of new gameplay to require at least both hands to count 'em.
3) Possibly, but I can't rightly say for sure.

Great Blog, I like the focus on gaming.

Ok, my questions.

1. Crysis....U.S. NPD retail numbers looked dismal, but I read in Europe it supposedly topped some charts and did well worldwide. Was Crysis successful enough to warrant a future sequel and/or expansion on PC?

2. Alan Wake. Remedy in a recent interview said to consider it Vista exclusive. Given the poor reception of Vista-only games and the supposedly poor reception of Windows Vista among gamers, do you think Remedy will cave in and make this compatible with Windows XP?

3. 2K was quick to snatch up Illusion Softworks, does that mean that Mafia II is looking really good?

4. I read that former Fallout / Troika developer Leonard Boyarsky is now at Blizzard, if he is, given his RPG background is he working on Diablo III or that Hydra game?

5. There was once talk of a remake of the original Silent Hill, will that ever happen?

6. If you've seen it, Do you think Will Wright's Spore will live up to expectations?

7. Is the Wing Commander game for PC?

8. What can you say about Mirror's Edge....premise wise, how's it looking?

Thanks.

Nameless1:
1) It's still on for a trilogy. The console versions are being relied on to make up for the less-than-stellar sales on PC. Crytek's new IP might arrive before the next Crysis does.
2) Still Vista-exclusive at the moment...Microsoft's orders. This could, of course, change before release.
3) 2K is confident that it can hold it's own in a post-GTA4 market. I'm inclined to agree.
4) Don't know about that one, sorry.
5) What was once believed to be a Silent Hill remake went on to become Silent Hill: Origins. A remake isn't in the cards right now.
6) Yes. It's a masterpiece.
7) Yes, at least. I heard a murmur that the game will call for one of the very highest production budgets in EA's history.
8) It's on a par with Portal as the most unique first-person game since Breakdown, which in turn was probably the most unique first-person game since Trespasser (and don't worry, it looks to be far, far, far better executed than the latter two games could have ever aspired to be). There has never been a first-person game where just moving around looks as cool as it does here, and when you really get into the Parkour trikery, it's just wild. After playing this game, I expect that many players will start imagining these sorts of movement mechanics in every other FPS they pick up after it (though I must say that these mechanics are pretty reliant on a number of other key design elements in the game, and probably wouldn't work too well in your run-of-the-mill corridor alien-blaster or WWII romp). I initially thought that they were insane to try and do this sort of thing in first-person, but I'm now really looking forward to this one.

Thanks for replying so quickly and without being mono-syllabic like a certain surfboard riding lady! :P

A couple more uestions if you don't mind...

1) Do you have any idea what 2K Games are working on for the PS3?

2) What are your thoughts on Home? Will it be a good thing?

3) Are there any games on the PS3 that you are looking forward to that we should keep an eye out for?

4) Will Square Enix be releasing this year that isn't part of the Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts franchises?

Thanks skaterboy.

Anonymous said...

Hey man, just two quick questions,

1) Do you know anything about Kingdom Hearts 3? What consoles?

2) How about a FFVII remake on the PS3?

skaterboy said...

Anon Three:
No problem. :)
1) As in exclusives, bearing the 2K brand? Nothing, really.
2) Anything even remotely resembling Second Life doesn't really do much for me, but there are going to be many people who absolutely love it. Whether or not it's enough to put PSN ahead of XBL is going to fuel online arguments for months.
3) In terms of exclusives, I'm interested in Infamous, LBP (though I tire of the hype), and Rockstar's new Western title (though I'm still not convinced about L.A. Noire, for some reason). Nothing much you haven't heard about, sorry.
4) The World Ends with You, Infinite Undiscovery, The Last Remnant, and Dragon Quest IX are all official. Itadaki Street DS, Front Mission 2089, Yosumin and the Star Ocean remakes should also all happen this year, or at least, a majority of those. Square-Enix is also contemplating localizing a couple of their informational non-game DS titles (which include travel, gardening, yoga, and classical music guides, as well as a wine guide which Nintendo of America is apparently not entirely comfortable with). Star Ocean 4 will probably be next year, by the way.

iDOG:
1) Wii-exclusive, and it won't be coming out this year.
2) Square-Enix has a publicly stated policy that they intend to milk a lot of remakes and rehashes...be flexibe with how you define "remake," though.

Are you sure KH3 will be Wii exclusive? I mean, it's whole main story has been on the PS2. It only makes sense for it's sequel to be on the PS3, especially with the PS3's graphics.

Anonymous said...

Is Yasumi Matsuno really aboard with Nintendo now and if so, what projects is he working on?

Do you have any details on the next console Zelda?

Anonymous said...

What platform will the new Snatcher game be on? I'm really looking forward to it!

Thanks

Anonymous said...

Hi,

Could you tell me whether Rare really was working on GoldenEye for Xbox Live?

Do you know on which platforms we will see TimeSplitters 4?

What is Fuse Games working on?
What has the former Machinex team (NST) in the pipeline?

Anonymous said...

Hi,

Is Relic working on a new Dawn of war game? or Homeworld 3?

The rumor of a new Baldur's gate is right?

Pc games are still lucrative?

Thank in advance

Me again:

Do you know the specifics of the "SSBB" roster? If so, can you confirm or deny MegaMan's appearance in Brawl in some fashion?

skaterboy said...

iDOG:
It's pretty much certain, last I heard. It's all about demographics; the Wii commands far more of the pre-to-mid-teen market that Kingdom Hearts is aimed at.

Anon Four:
1) Unfortunately, I haven't heard anything about him since he supposidly got on board with Mistwalker. I fully expect him to resurface with something that will command and deserve plenty of attention.
2) I wish! :)

lush larry:
The current plans indicate Wii exclusivity.

Anon Five:
1) It wasn't in full swing production, but it's my understanding that they fiddled with it a wee bit. I pretty sure that video that's been circulating is illegitimate.
2) PS3 and 360, and almost certainly a unique Wii version.
3) A game involving Kirby, which for better or worse is not a dedicated pinball game, and another project that I know nothing about.
4) I'm afraid I don't know, sorry.

Anon Six:
1) It's all about Homeworld 3 at Relic for the moment, but they aren't done with either Warhammer or Company of Heroes.
2) No. Bummer, eh?
3) Totally. Don't let the less-than-stellar performances of big titles like Crysis and Unreal Tournament 3 worry you; PC gaming isn't going anywhere.

Anon Seven:
1) I hope I don't seem cruel to leave you in suspense, but you should find out in less than three days. :)

Nice blog you've got running here. Just wondering if you could answer a few questions?

- What is the title that is being developed as a result of the Lucasarts/Bioware collaboration?

- What is the future of the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic franchise?

Thanks for any answers you can give.

Anonymous said...

Hey, thanks for the answers. A couple more.

1) Is there any new PS3 exclusives going to be announced this year? What companies? (a few please)

2) You have any information on Ubisoft's Heroes game? When will we see some new information on it?

3) When is Sly Cooper coming to the PS3?

3.1) Jak & Daxter?

3.2) Twisted Metal?

3.3) Viewtiful Joe?

3.4) Dark Cloud?

4) You know anything about when we will get in-game XMB and cross/in-game game invites for the PS3?

Thank you very much!

:O Matsuno at Mistwalker?

Is Mistwalker still working only on 360 games on the console side? I'd love to see them do a Wii project.

Is Mistwalker's future in any sort of trouble now that Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, and ASH put up mediocre to extremely poor numbers?

Two questions regarding the Wii MegaMan game:

1) What genre is it?
2) What "series" is it related to? Classic, X, Star Force?

And a couple non MM related questions:

1) Will Nintendo ever release a Wii hard drive?

2) Is there a possibility for a third party hard drive?

Anonymous said...

Hello Skater boy! 4 crazy questions for you.

1. Is there a Punch-Out Wii? If there is, do you know how it looks or plays?

2. Will F-Zero Wii (if its being made) be made by Amusement Vision? If not, is the team making it any good?

3. Could you give us any info on Treasures Wii game?

4. How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Roll pop?

Thanks! :)

Anonymous said...

Skater Boy, I have no idea who you are. Check out my blog for real info.

Anonymous said...

Hey dude.

I would like you to shed some light onto some stuff Im not 100% about:

Theres a rumor about Capcom making a PS3 exclusive, but source and insiders are so conflicting that Im not sure what to believe anymore.

Please clear this one for me bro.

Also, Im very curious to hear what PS3 exclusives you know of :) Japanese or western both are welcome :D.

skaterboy said...

daddycool:
1) That'd be Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic III.
2) See above.

idog:
1) Well, there's Rockstar's new Western game (which I'm starting to doubt will stay PS3-exclusive forever), a new game from Nippon Ichi, a Shin Megami Tensei (which may or may not have "IV" in the title; also, note that there will be other SMT games for other platforms), Eat Sleep Play's new game, Uncharted 2, Twisted Metal, one game from Factor 5 (they've scrapped one of their PS3 projects, it seems), Gran Turismo for Boys (the new PSN version), a new exclusive from Namco, something from Konami, and Sega may or may not get around to confirming Yakuza 3 for the US (once they finish localizing part 2), and Level 5 should be ready to talk about Rogue Galaxy 2 later this summer. Those are just a few that come to mind.
2) It looks better than the LOST game (which I don't think looks bad, by the way). I don't know much about the show (I know, I'm living under a rock), but I think fans should enjoy it. It'll be unveiled in May, for a release late this year, I believe.
3) Next fall at the earliest.
3.1) Sony wants them to make Uncharted 2 first.
3.2) For a while I thought they'd have something for this Fall (not necessarily the full-blown next game in the series though), but it's looking like next year.
3.3) Never, but don't give up hope on the series entirely (but I must warn you not to get your hopes up about it, either).
3.4) If it ever happens, it won't be until after Rogue Galaxy 2.
4) Somewhere between April and July, I think.

Anon Eight:
Yup, Mistwalker is still focusing on 360 and DS for now.

Microsoft knows that despite unimpressive sales figures, Mistwalker is an important component of their (ahem) strategy in Japan, and will continue to back the company for now.

dood:
1) Is "disappointment" a genre?
2) Classic, it seems. Sort of.
1) Never say never, of course, but they don't have one planned right now.
2) Not before Nintendo makes a first-party one.

AgentGoomba:
1) Haven't heard anything new about it in a while, but what I got to see was extremely close in many respects to the NES original.
2) Don't know who the developer is now, but I've heard that it's definitely not Monster Games.
3) There isn't one, at the moment. They're still puttering away on their new Xbox 360 game.
4) I never made it without biting. Ask Mr. Owl.

dancing queen:
Okay.

Anon nine:
No PS3 exclusives from Capcom right now. They seem to have decided that for the time being, exclusivity for either PS3 or 360 is impractical and not the most lucrative strategy for them to use.

For more PS3 exclusives talk, please see earlier in this comment. :)

"....new Namco Exclusive, new Konami exclusive.... "

"....Rogue Galaxy 2..."

"nippon Ichi new PS3 game..."

"...Megami tensai IV..."

"...Rockstar Westerm project (Red Dead Revolver 2, amirite ;D)"

Holy shit dude! You just fucking made my day!

And seriously, great thanks for taking your time and answering the questions. Much more thorough than "SG"... *ahem* ;D, so awesome!

again, thanks...

...wow Rogue galaxy 2 can't wait :D!

Anonymous said...

...Still a shame about Capcom though, but hey, what can you do :D.

But all the overload of goody PS3 exclusives info made me not care.:)

Hey man, any impressions on Resistance 2?
Looking good for fall?

Anonymous said...

Any new Wii Tales?

Any new Wii RPGS you know of?

Any new Square Enix Wii games?

What will Project 'S' be about?

Is Suikoden VI coming to the Wii? If so, will it be exclusive?

And finally...where do you get your info? ;)

skaterboy said...

Anon One:
Personally, I think it's an improvement on the first (which I wasn't really a fan of). Looking good for Fall, yes.

sora:
1) Aside from Tales of Symphonia: Knight of Ratatosk, no. Sword of Legendia seems to be on hold.
2) Media.Vision was still working on a Wii RPG, last I heard. Square-Enix has some secret projects for WiiWare.
3) There's a new Seiken Densetsu/Mana game coming.
4) Project 'S' aims to flesh out the world and story of Snatcher in all directions.
5) Double yes.
6) Ancient Chinese secret!
