Stories for February 1, 2008

- Someone told me that the Wii-exclusive Metal Gear title is somehow related to the Game Boy Color's Metal Gear: Ghost Babel.

- Criterion's Black 2 will feature a full compliment of online multiplayer modes (with co-op a possibility), unlike it's predecessor.

- I don't know the current status of the game, but during Rockstar Vancouver's first brainstorming sessions for a follow-up to Bully, one of the ideas they came up with was a very similar title starring a female counterpart to Jimmy Hopkins. They (at least semi-seriously) referred to this game concept as, I kid you not, Tough Cookie.

Are we gonna see more PS3 bumlickery from Alex Ward about Black 2? Only to have it be identical on all platforms again.

skaterboy said...

They look pretty dang identical to me.

Anonymous said...

Do you know anything about Obsidian's non-Aliens project?

Anonymous said...

Skaterboy, seriously dude. Just get it over with.

What are the multi platform games that have gone Xbox 360 exclusive.

Give me a hint at least please :[.

...although I have a tingling feeling one of them is Hitman 5 and Maybe Assassin's Creed 2. As far as I know Bioshock's sequel has been locked on the 360.

Im almost certain I won't feel too angered by whatever they've "moneyhatted" or whatever.

come on dude, help a bro here ;[.

1.How far in development is Turwiican (Sorry for the bad pun...) at the moment, when could we expect its first appearance?

2.Some time ago I heard something about new Capcom Games for the DS including an unnamed surviva-horror title, is there any truth to it(the horror game)?

3.Why should Kojma Prod. change their mind after ignoring the Metal Gear-franchise on Nintendo systems for such a long time (since Twin Snakes was a remake, done by SK for the most part)?

4.Disaster: DoC, does it anything new and is it any good, will it surprise the naysayers?

Anonymous said...

The exclusive that you are dying to know has been on the PS3 for ages, nope I ain't talking about MGS4 here, the game has been in development since like forever and was showcased as a genre defining on PS3 title at one point, but Sony seems to have completely forgotten to provide sufficient dev support, so the company knocked on Microsoft's doors who are pretty impressed with the project and are trying to bail them out of the mess Sony created...

Anonymous said...

oh yeah the MGS on the Wii aint your typical action/stealth title, its something that is supposed to engulf the masses rather than the hardcore...and MGS on the portable front might see the return of the original prodigal son "solid Snake" on his very first mission....

Anonymous said...

Continuing on the Metal gear front, the events between MG:Solid Snake and the original "Metal gear solid" for the Playstation will be brought to life after MGS4 is completed

Anonymous said...

Alright dude... thats a good hint there. But I need something more... like a um... part of the title.

Lol I have to be demanding. I just want to know it now rather than speculating.

provide me a part of the name I'll shut up :X.

BlackIceJoe said...

Do you know what big third party game that EGM said would come out sooner then any one thought.

Do you know if Bethesda is still working on the PSP game of Elder Scrolls. Because Gamespot said it was canceled but Bethesda is saying nothing on it.

Any big PSP games coming out that the gaming public does not know about yet.

Also there was a Kid Icarus rumor that said the Kid Icarus game would be like a God of War game.

Is there any chance this is real and who is making it.

Anonymous said...

well since you are so desperate to know about it its something like "the crossing" or in better words something very similar to the agency being developed on the PS3, the thing is that after NCsoft got onto the PS3 bandwagon Sony completely forgot about the studio which was one of the teams working on the online front, so now MS is pumping in the money to bring on this game onto their platform....

Anonymous said...

Thanks dude, I need that rush *takes out needle*.

Seriously, rumors are starting to get addicting.

Well, I geuss I can't really be sore about it especially since I dont know what it is.

Hopefully Sony has learned their lesson though. Wasting that exclusive contract with NC soft is fucking pathetic.

Which is... kinda wierd especially after how Tretton made such a big deal out of it. Then again Tretton is pretty useless in Sony's SCE section.

Hi,
in an old post you wrote "Microsoft has some announcements that will definitely anger some people." What does it exactly mean? Will Microsoft get also "thought" exclusive games from other consoles?

And I've some other questions.

1) When will we see a new (next-gen)generation of consoles?

2) When will be the release of Alan Wake ?

3) Any chance to see a Playstation 3 with BC in Europe again?

4) Which game Microsoft pushed-back to their "next-gen" console?

Thank you and some special greetings from Germany and excuse me for my maybe bad english.

:)

skaterboy said...

dea:
Nope, sure dont.

rukusa:
Seems like this question has been answered to your satisfaction already.

Anon One:
1) A few months. Dunno when they'll show it.
2) Capcom has some new DS games coming. At least one of them is spooky.
3) The same reason that a lot of companies are paying more attention to Nintendo these days.
4) It's not really stunningly innovative or anything, but it's pretty cool and quite well executed. Are there a lot of naysayers towards this game? I wasn't aware.

BlackIceJoe:
1) I'm not sure, I don't work for EGM or talk to anyone there.
2) Elder Scrolls PSP is dead.
3) Yes, but not many new franchises.
4) No offense, but no more Kid Icarus questions, please...

Anonymous from Germany:
1) I expect the usual 5-year lifespan for this generation.
2) Unknown; development on that game has been rough. This year, at least.
3) Not looking that way.
4) I don't know of any game like that.
Your English is very nice, by the way! :)

1.After Resistance 2, will Insomniac work on another Ratchet & Clank game or is it going to be something new, new IP?
2.Ready at Dawn is supposed to be working on PS3 game. What genre is it? Have you seen it, and what can you tell about it?
3.GetAway 3 for PS3 has been MIA for years, will it ever come out, and is it any good(second part was all broken)?
4.In what game genre would you like to see Killzone universe used? I personally would like something similar to Gears of War.
Thanks ill try not to bother you for some time after this one :)

Anonymous said...

@globox82
1)Yeah, post Resistance 2, not until 09
2)Most of the Staff is still ironing out Chains of Olympus
3)09 release
4)Killzone 2 looks darn good, but plays quite similar to any FPS on the planet by the time this game releases, most of the mechanics this games is so proudly been baosting about will have be done to death...

Globox82 said...

Thanks "Anonymous" but i will wait for SkaterBoy to answer me.

Anonymous said...

here some real nice info previously un-heard about Gears of War 2, the game is a prequel, Epic are saving the best for last, Fenix's scar will be finally explained, the Pendulum Wars are given quite a visceral treatement, Killzone 2 looks and feels like a child sucking on a pacifer and this anit no fanboy bait over here...

Anonymous said...

I have another question.

Is Suikoden 6, Prope's Wii game, the next Sonic Wii game, and Media.Vision's Wii RPG all for retail?

Anonymous said...

Just want to add something:
--4) It's not really stunningly innovative or anything, but it's pretty cool and quite well executed. Are there a lot of naysayers towards this game? I wasn't aware.--

Many are ranting about the graphics wich didn't seem to match other 1st party high-profile titles as Galaxy or Corruption. Maybe it's because of the physics and the weather effects, I think a whole city being floatet by the ocean isn't exactly a peanut processing wise...

Globox82 said...

"Skaterboy" can you delete this "Anonymous" posters that are spamming?
Like one where he tell us about Killzone sucking on pacifier or what ever. And one that "replayed" on my questions asked to you

Are there any other big 3rd party publishers that are interested in making psn/xbla games?

Right now only it seems like only capcom are interested in psn/xbla games.

BTW by making psn/xbla games I mean new games(like commando 3), not just classics(like castlevania)

Hey dude, I have some questions to you:
-Do you know when there will be new ps3 staterpacks/bundles in Europe? Like the Pik N Mix pack in the UK.

-Will Mass Effect,Too Human or Fable 2 come out on PC or PS3?

- WIll we get new ps3 exclusives in the first half of this year?

Thnx in advance!

skaterboy said...

globox82:
1) Yes, Ratchet and Clank again, next summer or fall.
2) Haven't seen it.
3) Next year. I don't really like the first two, but they have made some improvements.
4) I dunno. Don't know why people are interested in my personal opinions...

hero of legend:
They're all retail.

globox82:
Yes, this particular anonymous is irritating. I think it's that Dancing Queen joker.

hero of legend:
It's exclusive, and will stay that way. It's very much a game that can only be done on Wii.

Satoshi:
Sorry, I don't know about that.

gorillamuseum:
Konami has some concepts that might go into production. Namco as well.

Turkish_Cowboy_from_Belgium_Reports:
1) I don't know anything about Europe, sorry.
2) Mass Effect 1 will come to PC, but not PS3. Too Human will stay 360 exclusive (Microsoft is the publisher, and of course, would not allow it on PS3). Fable 2 will come to PC, but not PS3 (again, Microsoft publishes and owns the developer of this game, giving them full control of the IP. It will never come to PS3).
3) Unlikely. Later on in the year though, sure.

Hero of Legend said...

*relieved sigh* ahh, thank you very much for those answers!

I'll try as much as possible to keep my questions down to just a very few.

I do have some more though, not much though. ;)

1. Is Zoonami developing retail games for the Wii?

2. Does Game Zero still exist?

3. If so, is Game Zero a retail Wii exclusive, or WiiWare?

4. Do you see Zoonami or Free Radical developing a Donkey Kong game at any point? I just had to ask! XD

That's it really!

Oh, and what are your opinions on the credibility of Surfer Girl and Dancing Queen? SG I heard sees you as trust worthy, but DQ... not so much.

Hero of Legend said...

Err, make that I'll try as HARD as possible to keep my questions down to just a very few! :P

skaterboy said...

hero of legend:
1) Nope, it's all WiiWare at the moment. Retail games may happen in the future.
2) It's not really officially canned, but it's not being worked on right now. It's something that Zoonami would like to return to someday. If it ever does happen, it will be retail.
3) N/A
4) Nah, no way.

Surfer Girl is very credible. Dancing Queen is a joke.

And please, ask all you want. The worst that can happen is that I won't know the answer.

1.Resident Evil: Are there some other projects going on, except Degeneration and RE5? Maybe some RE2 10th Annyversary stuff?

2.Tecmo: What happened to the Wii-Port of Rygar? They where very quiet about it for some time...

Are there any reports about actual Ingame/Gameplay-Footage of Fatal Frame4?

3.Can you shed some light into the rumors about the developement of Crystal Bearers? What's the real deal about those stories of its development troubles?

Anonymous said...

1) Do you know anything about Digimon World Online for the PLAYSTATION 3? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digimon_World_Online

2) Are any 360 exclusives going to come to the PLAYSTATION 3 that you know of?

3) When is in-game XMB coming? It will have things like messaging, music, and game invites right?

4) Is Sony planning on revamping the PlayStation Store?

Thanks!

Hero of Legend said...

Thanks for those answers again!

Yeah, I definitely see you and of course SG as the real creditable ones, DQ seems to think you're a joke as well, but who's the one with the semi-copied blog URL? ;)

You're fantastic, and a lot quicker to answer questions than SG! And you put next to all of your focus on games, no politics, nada, but don't limited to this stuff though, do whatever you like with it!

I may as well get these questions out of the way.

1. Is High Impact Games developing for the Wii?

2. Does Ready at Dawn have any more Wii games in development at the moment? If not, will they continue to make Wii games?

3. Will Namco Bandai's Family series head to North America? Family Ski looks really interesting with the Wii Balance Board!

4. This next one is an odd one, but what is up with Garfield Gets Real? That game was originally scheduled for November (or was it October?) and we haven't even seen any screens of the game? Is it even worth looking into? Doubtful as it's DSI we're talking about.

5. Also, what's up with Brothers in Arms Double Time/Road to Hill 30? Why the name change and when is it actually coming out?

6. Does Atlus have any more Wii exclusive non-Trauma Centre games in development? Any RPGs by any chance?

7. Know anything about Image Epoch's Project Salamander and Project Ray?

8. Crossbeam and Nibris, are they actually releasing any games? This year perhaps?

That'll be all for now!

Anonymous said...

Hi,

Any chance to see a titan quest 2? or another xwing sim-space?

What do you think of valve steamworks?

Is world in conflict a success? any chance to see a sequel?

Hero of Legend said...

Three more questions:

9. You didn't quite say if Game Zero is for Wii or not... is it?

10. Is Nintendo publishing it when it does get developed?

11. Is Nintendo looking to buy any additional developers in the future? Any ideas which one?

Anonymous said...

Could you tell me any information about the new Shin Megami Tensei game for the Playstation 3? Is it connected with the Persona games? Do you expect it to be revealed sometime this year/ released sometime next year? Have you seen it yourself, what impressions do you have from it?
Thanks very much!~
Do you have any information about the rumored Square Enix MMORPG? If so, what platforms is it on? I have heard conflicting rumors of it being PS3/360/Vista and some that it is 360/Vista only. Also is it part of the Fabula Nova Crystalis world or is it connected to FinalFantasy XI? (if it does exist)
Thanks very much!~
Do you know anything about the supposed quasi Final Fantasy VII remake for the PSN? (as said by SurferGirl)
Thanks very much for answering any questions!~

Hey Skaterboy clear up some issues for me

Is Gears 2 actually a prequel?
MGS4 is not the last game in the series, where exactly is the next game set?

What BIG "unannounced" exclusive does MS have in store for their console?

Killzone 2 isnt going to make a 08 release?

IS DNF finally releasing this year?

I've also heard a couple of thigs which I dont know might be true or not, since you seem to answering rumors in the most satisfactory manner tell me how close this things are...

IS microsoft planning its own stealth genre like MGS4

The 360 will never come out with an inbuilt Blu ray player

Kojima is quitting Konami and is setting up a new studio post MGS4

Portable ops gets a sequel

A successor to the DS/Gameboy to be announced by the end of this year

Perfect dark 2 is a direct sequel

KI3 is in dvelopment

Hope I actually get an answer

Hero of Legend said...

Hmm, one last question before you post your answers.

12. You mentioned Team Fusion developing the Wii, DS, and PSP versions of EA's new modern MOH game, but is the Wii version built from scratch and 100% around the Wii, and will it feature the legendary controls from MOH:H2 and feature 32-player online? Will this game surpass MOH:H2?

Anonymous said...

Hi Skater Boy.I have a few questions

1. I remember hearing about an Epic title "set in the gears of war universe" for the PS3. Is there any truth to this?
2. Any chance we'll ever see a revival of Startropics?
3. I also remember hearing about a bioware exclusive PS3 RPG that was related to Dragon Age. Again is there any truth to this? a
4. Who owns the rights to the Planescape unierse? and what are the chances we'll ever see another game set there?
5. Do you think we'll ever see a Double Fine Productions game on the Wii or DS?
6. You said somethin about a spooky game on the DS from Capcom. Do you have any more information on this?

Anonymous said...

Some questions from my part:

Is the exclusive new MG(S?) game for Wii a part of the big story line?

Do you know anything other than it could be somehow related to Ghost Babel?

skaterboy said...

Anon One:
1) A sequel to Umbrella Chronicles.
2) Still on track for release this May. Trailer for Fatal Frame very soon.
3) Some problems with creative direction are being ironed out.

timestation:
1) Unknown.
2) No.
3) Between April and July, supposidly.
4) Not at this time.

Hero of legend:
Thanks!

1) No, they're still focusing on Secret Agent Clank, which, by the way, is already planned to be ported to PS2 about 9 to 12 months following it's "exclusive" release on PSP.
2) Only Okami is in active development, but they plan to continue to support Wii.
3) It's unlikely that all the titles in the Family line will make it here, but Family Ski and Family Athletic are both slated for localization.
4) Sorry, dunno. Sounds like shovelware.
5) It's called Double Time because it includes both Road to Hill 30 and Earned in Blood. Release target is this summer.
6) Atlus R&D 1 is prototyping a Wii-exclusive SMT game, very akin to the older games in the series.
7) A long time ago I heard that one is a shoot-em-up, and the other is an RPG. I believe it was Salamander and Ray, respectively.
8) I have never seen any evidence whatsoever that either of these "developers" has anything more than concept art to show for their efforts.

Anon Two:
1)Iron Lore's next project isn't related to Titan Quest, but there are plans to continue that series in the future. LucasArts isn't planning any space-sim games right now. Maybe they'll play copycat if EA's Wing Commander revival is a hit.
2)Steamworks will be useful to some developers, I'm sure, but I don't know that many users will suddenly notice any big changes in anything.
3)World in Conflict will receive an expansion.

hero of legend:
9) Well, it's not in active development, but if it's ever revived, the plan is for Wii-exclusive.
10) Possible, but it's "if", not "when."
11) Not right now.

Satoshi:
The PS3 SMT game is appearantly Shin Megami Tensei IV, the continuation of the core series. I haven't seen any actual game, but info I've heard make it sound like a fan-pleaser, if not terribly different from other games in the series (not that I'm complaining).
Square-Enix's new MMO is PS3, 360, and Windows, is unrelated to FFXI, and will be unveiled pretty soon.
What she's said about the FF7 "remake" is accurate. Anyone expecting something resembling that tech demo trailer from E3 2005 will be sorely disappointed.
NCSoft's plans for any sort of PS3 exclusivity are not going

koala:
1) No, unfortunately. Pity, because I liked seeing a really bright FPS for once. XIII fans have the upcoming XIII movie to look forward to, at least.
2) I haven't heard that, sorry...
3) I think that Ghostbusters fans will really like it, but it might not
4) Volition is largely focusing on Saints Row 2 right now, so Red Faction 3 won't happen this year. They will probably have a teaser at E3, though.
5) NOLF3 is one of the possible projects that Monolith is considering to follow Condemned 2 and Project Origin. It will happen someday, but it might not be called NOLF3.
6) The Dirty Harry game was cancelled, I'm afraid. Warner Bros does still want to make a Dirty Harry game, but they haven't signed a new developer yet.
Your English is very nice, by the way! :D

kookoo:
1) Heh, no-can-do.
2) Turn 10, the internal Microsoft studio responsible for Forza 2.
3) Later, I promise.
4) No aquisitions planned right now.

1000:
1) The story is so silly it hardly even matters. It's all set dressing, really.
2) MGS4 really does look like last MGS, but not the last MG, of course. There will be a Wii-exclusive non-Solid game, and some cash milkers.
3) Gosh, I'd rather not say right now...
4) It should make this year.
5) "When it's done."
6) Not right now. Having the next Splinter Cell as an exclusive seems to be enough for them (even though it's not terribly stealthy, and not incredibly great, really)
7) Microsoft thinks that digital distribution is the future, and where the money's at.
8) No.
9) There will be more portable MG games.
10) Highly unlikely.
11) PD2 is not in development.
12) Not full-blast, no.

hero of legend:
12) It's pretty Wii-specific, but not really 100% ground-up. The controls and online should be as good as MOH:H2.

julius:
1) There was.
2) Highly unlikely.
3) No.
4) I have no idea who owns the videogame rights for Planescape now, but the Planescape universe and IP belongs to Wizards of the Coast.
5) Unlikely, but never say never.
6) Not much.

Anon Three:
Probably not related to the core storyline. The Ghost Babel connection is the last thing I heard.

Hero of Legend said...

Wow, thanks again!

I have yet more questions.

1. Hudson has listed a new retail Bomberman Wii game on their Japanese website. Any info, like if it's more like Bomberman 64 and Bomberman Hero, etc? Is it online?

2. I read on Rumor Reporter a while ago that Hudson has a big next gen game in development, is that for Wii?

3. Speaking of which, does Hudson have any big retail games for the Wii planned?

4. Can we expect Okami Wii to be at GDC? And any idea if it's got better visuals and 480p and 16:9 added?

5. What's up with the Digimon World game that was listed for Wii back in 2006?

6. Does Namco Bandai have any big AAA Wii exclusive games in development? And I mean really great games, not Soul Calibur Legends quality like.

7. Is Custom Robo heading to Wii in the future?

8. Any chance of Custom Robo V2 on the VC heading to North America?

9. You mentioned that a unique Time Splitter 4 game would head to Wii, do you mean a 100% Wii specific version with the same "story" and characters, etc?

Thank you for the replies Skater Boy. I have a few more questions

1. The news of an Umbrella chronicles sequel is dissapointing (to say the least). Do you think we'll ever see a real new Resident Evil game on the Wii that isn't a rail shooter?
2. you said Metal Gear Wii was related to ghost babel. Do you know how it is related? AFAIK Ghost Babel was non-canon
3. You said that "there was" a PS3 Gears of War type game. Does that mean it's no longer coming? Is there no chance of it being resurrected?

1) Will the PS3/360 be getting a Fatal Frame game? If so, will it be V or a spinoff?

2) When can we expect to see Fatal Frame IV release?

3) Is Konami interested in making semi-decent budget games for Wii? (ie, not elebits or dewey's adventure quaility)

4) Will we be seeing the DQ remakes for DS come stateside?

5) It was recently found out that some files on the disc of Super Smash Bros Brawl contained some sort of data on non-playable characters such as Mewtwo and Roy, and that these are similar to simple character skins like Giga Bowser. Given this, do you think they were intentionally put there to create a window of opportunity for downloadable 'characters' that would simply be direct 'clones' of others and simply use cloned animations? Or maybe not 'characters' but rather alternate 'costumes'?

thanks a bunch!

Hi Skater Boy,

First of all: Great blog, love to read it and you really seem too know much. Keep up the good work!

I got some questions for you, hope you can answer them:

1) Do you have any news on the new Pro Evolution Soccer game (not talking about PES 2008 for the Wii)? The last one dissapointed lots of gamers (including me) and Seabass the next one would be truly next-gen, any info on what he is talking about?

2) At last years E3 we saw a great trailer from UFC, could you tell us if this was in-game or not?

3) Miyamoto said in an interview that he was thinking of new ideas for Mario and Zelda games, does this mean the development hasn't started on those titles? If not, will the games come to the Wii or the following Nintendo console?

4) Any news on Dead Rising 2, like the setting or a possible multiplayer?

"If you're an industry developer, this is the most important post you've ever read...

I’ve started a new project. It’s big. It’s, like, look-at-our-line-up-and-imagine-something-even-bigger kind of big. I’m Directing it myself. I can't mention it publicly yet. When you find out what this is, you'll likely agree that I can't oversell this one.

I’m looking for some talent from outside of Gearbox to join us for this one. Specifically, we need a super senior artist – lead artist or art director level. Can you motivate and inspire others while making sure they’re productive? Do you know the tools and techniques for this gen’s AAA? Want to do something that is going to be super relevant - that everyone will notice and play when you're finished? You’ll work directly with me (and a kick-ass team) and you’ll define a *lot* of the game’s look and feel (and you’ll get to contract the best concept artists in the world to help you).

Gearbox is on fire right now and it’s only looking better down the road. This is an extremely rare chance to join up in a super senior role with a lot of authority and responsibility. Even if you’re only curious, just introduce yourself to me by e-mailing dreamgig@gearboxsoftware.com Yeah, it’s a campy address, but when you hear more about the project you'll probably agree. We can be extremely discreet if you’re curious but don’t want to represent that you’re looking to leave your current gig - just let us know. If you don’t know about us, more information about Gearbox Software can be found at www.gearboxsoftware.com.

One more thing – I’ll be at DICE and GDC in Feb, so if you’re going to be at either and can meet in person, indicate that when you e-mail. As far as senior/lead artist opportunities go, trust me when I say that this is as good as it gets (which is why I’m going this route to get the word out). In your e-mail, you may want to include a note or art that makes us want to sort you to to the top. Good luck.

PS – The lead coder for the project is also looking for a couple of coders to join him, so use the same contact address if you’re a veteran programmer. Other Gearbox projects have openings too (including on the Borderlands and Aliens teams).

- Randy Pitchford

Note - The project won't be completed this year, or the next... It will be in pre-production with a smaller, focused team until after both Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway and Borderlands has shipped.

If nothing else, the information does give some insight into just how far ahead we are planning and acting."

What title can be so big from gearbox?

1) Retail Bomberman? Are you sure that's not the Wiiware one?
2) Dunno, but I kinda doubt it.
3) They should be working on Mario Party 9, to be followed by Mario Party 10, and so on.
4) No. It looks pretty much identical to the PS2 version, though 480p and 16:9 options are highly possible.
5) Dunno, sorry.
6) I guess that depends on how you define "big AAA" games. I think that Fragile and Knight of Ratatosk look quite good.
7) Certainly.
8) Yes, it's possible.
9) Not really 100%, no.

Anon One:
Too early to tell, sorry. I liked the first one and expect Capcom will attempt to further improve the formula.

julius:
1) I don't just think, I know. There will most certainly be a non-rail shooter Resident Evil game for Wii.
2) Unknown.
3) How to put this...um...I want to leave my use of the term "was" ambiguous.

globox82:
That link doesn't work for me...

satoshi:
Not too terribly much. I dunno, all of them are looking good, so you'll really have to decide that for yourself. There should be stuff for RPG fans, but nothing that'll rock the world, I don't think.

the end of yaru:
1) Not planned right now.
2) Maybe this year, in Japan at least.
3) Budget games? Don't think so.
4) Should happen.
5) I haven't heard about that, sorry. I'd have to look into it. Downloadable characters for Brawl is probable, though.

home_tester:
Not sure about day one. Sony plans to be rolling out new Home features for a long time to come.

denketsu:
Very possible, semi-likely-ish, to my understanding.

Anon Two:
Thanks!
1) It's a pretty major overhaul, ground-up for the next-gen systems.
2) Don't think so.
3) There is a new Zelda in development (aside from the Retro-developed one), and Nintendo is almost constantly experimenting with ideas for the next Mario game. Miyamoto is always thinking of new ideas.
4) Bigger than a mall, and multiplayer is likely.
5) Other end of the spectrum from the first one.
6) Looks alright for TNA fans, but I wouldn't say that it kicks SvR's ass.

globox82:
Quantic Dream is very possible, and I heard mumblings about thatgamecompany and Eat Sleep Play, though Sony doesn't really seem to think that they really need to aquire either of these.

darkconsoles:
Neither look to be happening, sorry.

1000:
1) Is Bioshock 2 big enough?
2) Maybe someday, but it's not in the cards right now.
3) Do you really have to ask? Yes, many.
4) Away, Blue Dragon Plus (the DS one), Blue Dragon 2, Cry On, a part-MMO title, and another game from feelplus.
5) A little less gray and ruined.
6) Not so much "better" or "worse" as "different."
7) Dead.

hero of legend:
10) Unlikely. Rare is still working on the DS version of Viva Pinata.

Anon Two:
Between April and July. That's the most precise info I have.

I dunno, but I'm trying to find out.

cruizd:
1) The Quantum of Solace game looks about as good as, maybe a little better than Everything or Nothing.
2) Drawing board.
3) Stuck in development hell.
4) Don't know anything.

Unknown. If I were to hear that it's somehow stalled, I wouldn't be surprised.

1. Yeah, the Bomberman Wii game is here:

With the source inside.

2. Do you know exactly what's up with Brownie Brown and Feel Plus in Blue Dragon Plus? BB is said to be developing it, but eel Plus is also said to be developing it. Are they both involved, if so, in what way?

3. Yes it's obvious that Hudson are doing MP9 and then MP10 and so on, but are they doing anything else big for the Wii?

1. Whoops, that page turned into a redirect to BLWii. So sorry, here's everything:

Bomberman (Wii):

Bomberman WiiWare:

http://www.hudson.co.jp/gamenavi/gamedb/index.cgi?mode=info&f=wiiware_bomberman

Bomberman Land (Wii)

http://www.hudson.co.jp/gamenavi/gamedb/index.cgi?mode=info&f=wii_bombland

I know it's confusing, that's why I made that Bomberman (Wii) article on Wikipedia in the first place.

2. And you say BB is doing most of the work on Blue Dragon Plus? What's Feel Plus doing then?

Oh, and even though I know Nintendo owns the Brownie Brown name, is Brownie Brown (the company) wholly owned by Nintendo?

And give me the full story behind the formation of Feel Plus, I'm under the impression that Microsoft formed the studio to aid Mistwalker, but other sources say the studio simply consists of ex-Microsoft employees. Care to clear this up?

3. And while we're on the subject of companies and ownership, is Ambrella a Second-Party developer of Nintendo, or First-Party?

4. To end that subject, any clue as to why Nintendo does not own the rest of the Diddy Kong Racing characters (Timber, Taj, etc)? Even though they've only appeared on Nintendo's consoles? Nintendo just owns the music (thank god, I loved it) and Krunch besides the obvious.

5. And my final question, any idea about the future of Donkey Kong Racing? Will Rare revive the title on the DS or Nintendo's next handheld? Who owns the game's code?

That's it, thanks!

So sorry, but I have this last quick one:

6. Are there any Klonoa games in development? Any for Wii retail and exclusive?

skaterboy said...

hero of legend:
1) Hmm...not sure. I'll have to look into it.
2) Co-development. Brownie Brown is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nintendo. feelplus (it's all low-caps, one word, by the way) was formed by Microsoft, indeed, with a core goal to "aid" Mistwalker (and by "aid," I mean "do all of the actual development work on Lost Odyssey"). The company is made up almost entirely of ex-Nautilus (the developers of Shadow Hearts) employees.
3) Ambrella is not owned by Nintendo, but they are a dedicated second-party.
4) Beats me.
5) That game is dead, very very dead. A rotten corpse, guaranteed to never be resurrected. If there ever is another Donkey Kong racer (which probably wouldn't happen for a long time, given the poor sales of Donkey Kong Barrel Blast), it will be made from scratch, and with absolutely zero involvement from Rare. Furthermore, If Rare ever actually makes Sabreman Stampede, it won't be built on the remains of Donkey Kong Racing, as was once believed. What was done on DKR is simply too archaic by today's standards to be of any use whatsoever.

gorillamuseum:
That link takes me to myspace's frontpage.

globox82:
Okay, that finally worked. I don't know about that game, though.

hero of legend:
6) I don't know anything about the Klonoa game that's in development (other than that it is in development), sorry.

Hero of Legend said...

Thanks for the very detailed info there, I appreciate it!

That's what I thought about feelplus' origins, I forgot that it was made of ex-Nautilus, I remember reading that, but forgot it. :P

Wow, this is a first, a Microsoft created developer (feelplus is owned by Microsoft correct?) working with a Nintendo owned developer, this you won't see everyday, and on any other platform!

I'm guessing you don't even know the platform for the Klonoa game, do you?

The guy who talked about "tears of blood" said we should expect this from gdc:

"Xbox 360:

-----------

Ninja Gaiden 2

"new" Project Gotham racer

Fable 2

Too Human "on 2 screens"

Gears of War 2 "teaser trailer... no gameplay probably just title and coming soon and some music and shit like that"

New Halo project laid out "might be Halo wars???"

Project Offset "has a new name.. I don't know what it is"

GTA 4 expansion packs talked about in detail.

PS3:

-----

MGS4 more of the same ol' same. Online shown off.

Home demoed off "as usual"

Killzone 2 played

Resistance 2 "teaser trailer... probably no gameplay here either. I could be wrong"

White Knight Story

"A" Square Enix Game shown off ... "I don't know which of the 3 it'll be"

Afrika shown off with home "It's going to utilize home avatars for it's characters"

Motorstorm 2

Tekken 6

Eight days "which has a new name"

Infamous "which looks very bland"

Sing star

GTA 4

The Getaway will be demonstrated off showing the new tools of the Havok engine. Actual gameplay is a big ??? Right now, though.

PSN games touched upon. < typical.

Little Big Planet gets a release date of September 08.

NCSoft is going to show off some stuff and SEO is going to tout the Agency a bit... we won't see either for a year or better."

Does he know what he is talking about or just somebody writing bullshit and hoping to get a few right?

Hero of Legend said...

Hmm, I have these two additional questions:

1. Is AlphaDream's Tomato Adventure ever getting a sequel on the DS or even the Wii? Too bad the original wasn't even localized.

2. Speaking of Brownie Brown, do they have any Wii games in development? Do they even plan on supporting the Wii? What about the chances of their mascot; the Brownie Brown elf, getting his own game?

Omar M. said...

Just a few more that I was wondering about:

1. I actually meant 'semi-decent budget' as in games that have a pretty good budget, ie, not the low budgets of dewey's adventure and stuff.

2. Have you seen/heard of any in-game footage of Final Fantasy XIII? Is it looking close to the trailers?

3. Any talks of a 1:1, or at least very precise, swordfighting game on the Wii from a capable developer?

4. Any talk of SMT/other Atlus games for Wii?

5. Any spec of hope for Oboro Muramusa Youtouden (that one Vanillaware 2D RPG) coming stateside?

Once again, thanks a bunch!

Anonymous said...

So Halo Chronilces is going to be "different",is my guess correct on this one since MS have already done A full out action game with the Halo sereies. Halo Wars is a strategy, the only thing that seems to be left is an RPG or an Online MMORPG right....

Bioshock 2 sans half of the original team...I wonder how that'll shpae out to be...

So MS has practically nothing to cover up Metal Gear or Killzone 2 or RFOM2...apart from Ninja Gaiden II , Too human and FABLE...whilke these games are big they arent exactly humungous...anything Bigger and more well known to the audience...

What's the title Rare is suposed to be working on that is supposed to be like goldeneye sans all the elements...any truth in those claims...

Quick follow-up question on the TNA game: Will the Wii version be a full featured game or something similar to the pathetic SvR that THQ and Yukes insulted us with?

skaterboy said...

hero of legend:
feelplus is not owned by Microsoft. They are a subsidiary of cavia (also all lower-caps), the company responsible for Drakengard, Bullet Witch, Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, a number of licensed anime games, and Mistwalker's upcoming Cry On. cavia, in turn, is owned by Nakayama Renaissance, a holdings company founded by ex-Sega president Hayao Nakayama. Same goes for Artoon. Anyways, Microsoft merely instigated and funded some of feelplus' founding, but by no means do they own or control the studio. Sorry if I explained it poorly/incompletely and/or caused any confusion. And no, I really don't know about Klonoa.

gorillamuseum:
You don't have to be an "insider" to be able to guess what that person wrote.

hero of legend:
1) Doubtful, unfortunately.
2) No Wii games from Brownie Brown at the moment, but it's certainly a possibility for the future. I think their mascot (whose name is "Brown," according to their website) will remain just a mascot.

the end of yaru:
1) Oooohhh, I see. Heh, see how I misread that? No, nothing especially high-budget at the moment.
2) Hasn't everyone? Some of the pictures available are indeed real-time. I find it very easy, personally, to tell the difference between FFXIII's real-time and pre-rendered visuals, but I'm sure that there are people deluded enough to think otherwise. I think that Square's claims of it being the same quality as pre-rendered CGI movies are rubbish. You can still tell it's a current generation videogame, albeit an especially pretty one.
3) You'd think someone would have the guts to try it by now, but nope, nothing really going for 1:1 yet. I personally think that it's more likely that such a game will be released as a Wiiware title, which could allow for a less costly and risky investment for what is most certainly a risky game concept.
4) To quote myself earlier in this post: "Atlus R&D 1 is prototyping a Wii-exclusive SMT game, very akin to the older games in the series."
5) Oboro Muramasa Youtouden is guaranteed for stateside release. Rejoice.

1000:
1) Halo Chronicles is more what you would call "interactive entertainment." An MMORPG? Heavens, no.
2) Terrific, most likely. 2K Boston has talent to spare.
3) Um, I don't want to get into personal opinions here, but Microsoft has one hell a lineup for the 360. I don't think it's fair at all to say that either the PS3 or 360's lineup is especially superior to the other.
4) Kind of somewhat possibly true. I know they were experimenting, in very small capacity, with a number of ideas regarding that game.

satoshi:
Heavy Rain looks great, but I really wish that Quantic Dream's Guillaume de Fondaumière hadn't made that ridiculous claim that they'd overcome the Uncanny Valley. It's a really terrific-looking game, visually, but for him to claim that it's anything even beginning to approach something like flawless CG realism that actually overcomes the Uncanny Valley effect is terribly arrogant, in my opinion. Like all attempts at robotic or CGI facimiles of human beings, the more realistic the facimile, the more noticeable (and sometimes creepy) the tiny, inevitable flaws become. This effect is why many believe that it is, indeed, impossible for robotics or CGI to flawlessly recreate a human being; the fakes may look better and better, but their flaws will always give them away, even moreso as the overall quality improves. Sorry for the rant, but I thought that de Fondaumière's statement on this subject was one of the sillier claims I'd heard in the industry last year. I have to imagine that de Fondaumière doesn't really understand the concept of the Uncanny Valley, or he would understand that, in making Heavy Rain look more realistic, they are actually plunging even deeper into the Valley. Heavy Rain might fool your grandparents for a second, but I don't think anyone will mistake it for a live-action film. It very much looks like a videogame, albeit a great one. I think it looks like a better game than Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit.

longaway:
Difficult to say. It is definitely a bit different from the other versions, but I think you'd still call it "full-featured."

Cruiz said...

Hi Skaterboy

Thx a lot for replying to my previous question. I hope you don't mind me asking a few more:

1) You compared Quantum of Solace to EON, does that mean the new 007 title is going to be third person?

2) What multiplayer elements do Activision have planned?

3) There was a rumour that one of the 007 titles would be a racing title. Is this true?

4) Is Kingdom Hearts 3 really wii exclusive? I can understand this being done because of the wii sales, but the PS3 seems like a better choice because of the technology, and also because the two major KH games appeared on PS2.

5) I just read that a full FF7 remake is still possible. With the port apparently coming to PSN, what sort of enhancements can we expect?

6) Will Konami release an MGS remake for PS3/ PSN?

7) While I'm sure the new PSP is still years off, do you know of any upgrades that Sony are contemplating giving their debut handheld's successor?

8)Is Afrika for PS3 ever going to be released? IS there more to the game than just the speculated photo taking? Does it have any potential at all?

9) Do you know how many new characters Namco have planned for Soul Calibur 4, outside of Hilda, Yoda and Darth vader? And are there any other guest characters?

10) Do you know how I could get a hold of Sony? I would love to pitch some ideas for video games, amongst other things, which I think they could possibly be interested in.

Keep up the good work!

2) Unsure, at the moment.
3) Possible, but not confirmed right now.
4) I will address this in a regular post very soon.
5) Anything is possible. Nothing that I think would make it worth playing that tired old game again, but I'm sure starving fans will go for anything.
6) No. Just play The Twin Snakes.
7) Not really. I think it will probably have better graphics, for starters. Yes, Sony has looked into the highly-original concept of a touch screen for their next handheld, but I'm not sure that they're shameless enough to actually go through with that.
8) Yes, should be this year. Yes, but all of the gameplay is similarly non-violent. I guess, for what it is.
10) It doesn't work that way. Companies do not just accept (or hardly even acknowledge) freelance suggestions like that, due to legal concerns. Sorry.

Tell me about the new Sonic Wii game. Surfer Girl claims it's like Secret Rings but without the Arabian setting, and she says it's awful.

Is she right about it being like SR but without the Arabian setting? Is this game better or worse than SR in your opinion? Will it be in Japan and NA this year? And is the SR team behind this game, or another?

And if possible, can you say what it's framerate is, like if it's 30 or 60? SR was 30 frames, which is a first for a Sonic game in a long while, a pity.

skaterboy said...

1) Halo Chronicles will be many things.
2) It's a follow-up to Red Dead Revolver, but not necessarily Red Dead Revolver 2.
3) WWII, the Pacific.

lee Harvey Oswald
1) 2K is still in the football game business, yes.
2) No.
3) Yes. Microsoft is big on digital video distribution.
4) Yes. Microsoft has more features in mind for 360, and Sony has yet more configurations for PS3.
5) No, not at the moment.
6) Me neither. It's a tough business.

pointman_4000:
A) Stalled out.
B) Not necessarily dead forever, but there is currently no sign of that series continuing right now. Namco wasn't really thrilled with the way that Xenosaga III sold less than half as well as Xenosaga I.
C) Elite Beat Agents 2, a Wii game, and an Xbox 360 game.

globox82:
1)
2) They considered it, doesn't look like it'll happen though. Epic absolutely wants to remain independant (though in the event they are ever aquired, I'm sure they'll be forced to dish out the usual spiel about how "We believe that this aquisition is in the best interest of our company, and are excited about the new creative opportunities this will allow us to pursue," and all that rosy stuff)
3) Nothing that literally no one knows about, no. :) I might know some, but I'd have a hard time picking out something that for sure will wow the world. I personally wasn't totally floored by LBP when I first heard about it, as many people were, but I certainly think that it does look fun.

hero of legend:
She is correct about the basic premise. I don't think that it really looks terribly much better than the first one, but they seem to have made some improvements with the lag issues that the first had. Dunno about release window, and I think it's the same team. Dunno about the framerate either.

Why is my number "1" question empty?
Do you now wish to answer or what?

Hero of Legend said...

Thanks for that!

Any idea if Yogiro Ogawa is involved again like he was with SR?

Did the graphics look better? And any idea if the game uses a specific setting, or is it more urban, or something different? Are you able to tell us the specific setting is?

Will there be minigames again, or is there more focus in the single player mode? And is there online of any kind?

Should we expect an announcement before long? Say... before E3?

Also, has Sega ever considered a possible Wii version of Sonic Adventure 1 & 2? They're the best 3D Sonic games IMO that should get graphically enhanced remakes with added features, which would still make them the best 3D Sonic games ever, as long as Sega doesn't screw up (again).

Will we ever see a Chao Garden again?

And finally, is Sonic Adventure 3 still a dream?

3) Minigames, yes. No online, to my knowledge.
4) Before E3 is possible.
5) No, Sonic Adventure is in the past now.
6) Maybe, I dunno.
7) The "Adventure" era of Sonic games is over, sorry.

1000:
"Chronicles" does new things with the franchise. Can I not just leave it at that? I'm unsure about this Gearbox thing, I'm looking into it; take all of that noise with a handful of salt.

Hi! Please answer this.

Is Sega finally gonna come to their senses and rehire Ryan Drummond and a GOOD cast?

This should be enough of an example as to what the fans want:

PLEASE help Sega come to their senses and actually RESPECT their fans wishes.

Which game do you think is going to grab eyeballs Bigtime at GDC 08...

Have you seen a game called Faith and .45 looks pretty impressive from the guys who made Total overdose...a Fun game...well the thing is that these chaps have no publisher for their game as yet or do they they are just not spilling the beans that M$ are pouring in the project....

fantasy:
I don't know. To ever expect quality voice acting from a series like Sonic is just setting yourself up for disappointment, if you ask me.

1000:
Like, a single game? Gee, I can't single anything out...
Coincidentally, I almost did a post about three weeks ago, suggesting that people keep an eye out for Faith and a 45. Can't remember why I forgot to post it, but since then, they've shown the spiffy debut teaser. Anyways, yes, the game is looking terrific and cool and unique, and I'm definitely looking forward to it. I think it'll come together better than Total Overdose (which I enjoyed the silliness and excessiveness of). No, Microsoft is not funding or publishing it. Also, please, don't ever do the "M$" with a dollar sign thing here, it's really juvenile and annoying. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

That's Nice to know..I just used the sign to indicate dollar flows...sorry...Shane Kim said they was a lot in store form microsoft's side for the 360 and he did happen to mention Alan WAke besides the regular bunch...I guess it is coming out this year cause they never mentioned it last year and suddenly they have started a blaze with Aaln wake again...I also wanted to aks something about conviction, CQC although being introduced in MGS is actually pretty basic...but the CQC i've seen in Conviction and seems more fluid and fun to do.Is it true. And somehting about I.D. tech 5 any other game using it aapart from their shooter...and I forgot Crytek's Chief was also talking about their tech being Licensed....any clues on the game or games on that engine...Coretem Serious sam's engine looks fucking amazing where is coming back...the last I saw were scans from a german mag in early 07

skaterboy said...

1000:
I'd be shocked if Alan Wake didn't make it this year. Close Quarters in Conviction is pretty good. id (one word, lower caps, by the way; the name refers to a psychological concept, not "identification") has not begun licensing id Tech 5 to third parties yet, though they do plan to use it for Quake 5, eventually.
CryEngine 2 has been licensed out for a while now, and is being used in a number of third-party games, including Mindark's Entropia Universe, Avatar Reality's Blue Mars, Reloaded's The Day, Paleo's Merchants of Brooklyn, an MMO from XMLGames, and a military training game (which will not be available publcily) by Harrington Group called Vigilance.
Croteam's next game won't ship until sometime in 2009.

all you need to know about robots. what's new from japan: snake robots are also known also as serpentine robots.Cleaning robots When the early Manchu rulers came to China proper, they organized certain people, mainly Manchus, into "banners" (qi) and called them "banner people" (qiren), qipaowhich then became loosely the name of all Manchus. The Manchu women wore normally a one-piece dress which, likewise, came to be called "qipao" or "banner dress." Although the 1911 Revolution toppled the rule of the Qing (Manchu) Dynasty, the female dress survived the political change and, with later improvements, has become the traditional dress for Chinese women.cheongsam
